  • i'm a mum, home-manager and general dogsbody!! in my free time (when precisely?!) i try to decluter and make some extra cash by selling whatever baby & kids stuff we no longer need on beansprog.com. much better than ebay!
  • I have been a lurker on this site for many months I thought it was about time I came and posted.

I had to retired due to ill health (MS) in 1999. My husband gave up work to be my carer as my condition progressed.

I have been busy reading different areas of this site. Starting to put some of these ideas into practice. I didn't really know where to start so decided to tackle the grocery spending and using food stuffs from cupboard and freezer. Trying not to buy items unless needed or on offer.
  • Hi all

Another long time lurker… quite a few years in fact. I am married with a six year-old son and work in IT/Finance. I consider myself a champion "stoozer" - I had about 6 credit cards on the go at one stage all at 0% taking my mortage balance to zero for almost 12 months! This was in the days before balance transfer fees and when Egg allowed balance transfers to a bank account. I finally got around to joining the boards in order to communicate with my sister, who spends all her time on them judging by the number of posts she has made! No wonder she never has time to reply to my emails (you know who you are….)! I have two opposing money traits - the first is to worry obsessively about the financial future and try to make sure there is always some money saved for a rainy day. The second is a tendency to spend money on things I don't need/want when I am bored/tired/stressed/etc. I am a Libran, so that probably accounts for it!

    Hi

I'm a 26 year old student and although always been careful with money, I've always over indulged people around me. I have a DH who is at times terrible with money and would pay for his Subway Sandwiches with his credit card. Everyday. For a year. Many,MANY fights ensued after that one.

Managed to knock the debt down a bit on our own, but I'm here for more advice and tips.

My mum brought us up on benefits and not the ones where they have a 39 foot tv and the latest cars, we always had reduced whoopisies, second hand clothes and a newspaper round instead of pocket money. So I've always known the value of money.

Hoping to pay off all the oustanding stuff that we have (as we made the mistakes together, we'll pay it off together) and then work on hammering that mortgage down before moving into something bigger.

    Hello all

I have been posting on here for a couple of months and only just realised this thread was here!! Such a wally!
I am a single mum (41  ) to my gorgeous little girl who is 7. We are best friends and have been on our own since she was born so are incredibly close. She does see her dad everyother weekend which I hate but wouldnt dream of stopping. Whatever I think of him he is still her dad (unfortunately  ) Of course my DD doesnt know how I really feel about him and is as happy as larry going of to his with his wife and daughter, which is good.
I work fulltime for a firm of accountants dealing with payroll and employment law issues which I enjoy.
Bought my own home 4 years ago and have slowly but surely had it ripped out and redone. Not the best area in the world mind, but once the front door is shut its nice and cosy.
Since being on here I have bought a Panny breadmaker, stardrops and a new SC  all worth their weight in gold. I've stopped having my hair highlighted and buy a home one to do myself (with help from DD bless her!)
This morning I left for school/work with bread being made in the BM and a chicken casserole in the SC, people dont recognise me. I was the one who thought nothing of spending £170 on a pair of killer heels at one time  and having takeaways far too often.
But circumstances change and to be honest I wouldnt go back to having money again if I had to give up my life as it is now.
So a huge thankyou for finally getting me to try and be organised, its a slow process but I am getting there - honest!
This time last year I was £11K in debt on credit cards but managed to pay them off by re-mortgaging the house and vowed I will NEVER get into that state financially again.
Anyway, Hello to everyone on here and look forward to chatting more in the coming weeks and months.... :A

    Hello :D

I'm 32 and live with my wonderful b/f and our gorgeous 9 y/o son. I've lurked for quite a while because I lost my log in details :o but I've learnt so much from reading the posts!! I can even cook from scratch now, so a big massive thankyou to everyone.

My b/f is self employed and work is a lot thinner on the ground than it usually is at this time of year but so far we are scraping by, mainly by little adjustments everywere... food, heating etc but I know we can do more :D Just starting with small steps for now until I get myself more organised. Hopefully I'll learn loads more from being here.
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.
  • Hello all thought i would introduce myself properly
I am 31, married with 3 children, age 8,5, and 3. I work part-time, mornings, 20 hours a week. DH runs his own business - still in the early stages and a lot of hard work but finally starting to pay off!!!! I am trying to pay off some of our old debts, (cc, loan etc), save for a new car (mine was written off last month, got £1300 from insurance co but saving for a newer one!!!) And also saving for our holiday to Brittany, France this summer (went last year and fell in love with the place!)

So thats it! Have started the grocery challenge, and the meal planning - all going well so far and family seem to be loving all the home-cooked food. Next challenge is to start baking our own snacks/biscuits etc, making flapjacks and apple cookies this afternoon so wish me luck!!!

    September Grocery Challenge £181.51/£270.00
    August Grocery Challenge £298.60/£270.00
