  • Hi all

Just thought i would introduce myself. I have been lurking on MSE for about 2 and a half years and have picked up some great hints and tips which have helped me save a deposit for my house, pay for my wedding and generally be a bit more sensible with my money.

I'm 25 and like Princess_Siobhan my OH is in the forces and often away leaving me with our kittycat for company so it will be nice to have some human conversation!

This year my new years resolution is to contribute to the MSE forum to try and give something back for all the advice I've picked up from others on here.

    Take care

  • Hi all, thought i'd introduce myself as i'm planning on being around quite alot from now on...! I am a mum of 3 (6,3 and 8 months) and have very recently given up my full time job to a nasty bout of post natal depression that i'm slowly getting over - I am immensly looking forward to being at home with my babies even though I know how difficult it is going to be for us going from 2 wages to just 1. I have a chocolate labrador who is like my 4th child, and I am an "Army Wife" - my husband has served with the Royal Engineers for 12 years. That's about it.....pleased to meet you all!
Mummy to 4, Grafter, Comper, Blogger

  • Hi, have been around for a while but don't post much
    I'm Gail, 34 mum to 6 kids
    3 boys 14,13,and 9
    3 girls 15,11 and 7
My eldest lad has autism,ADHD,OCD,anxiety and a degree of agrophobia and paranoia
My 9 yr old lad has ADHD
Neither my husband or I work as I am carer to my son and hubby is carer to his 2 disabled parents and elderly disabled aunt - thus money is tight so we budget as much as possible to give the kids a good start in life and try to save as we go along
We are already saving for next xmas!!
I live in the West Midlands on a housing estate with a small gerden but still grow alot in pots inthe garden and in the house
I'll be posting alot more this year as money gets even tighter with the credit crunch
My new years resolutions are buy less, waste less, recycle more and cook most meals from scratch
I had a panasonic b/m for xmas - something I wanted for years so make most of our bread now
Also wanted to say thanks for all the tips on here and advice - I have saved loads
No big food shop for 3 weeks - total spent £27.25
hoping to keep it under £75 for 7 of us and 5 cats 1 dog for 3 weeks

I'm another longterm lurker, :hello: I originally came to the MSE boards for wedding tips and found my way to OS as i am a keen cook and crafter and interested in the ethical/environmental side of OS living. I'm 29 (eep nearly at the big 30!) and live with my DH in Yorkshire. I worked in HE /research admin but have recently moved with DHs job so have been tapping into my inner 50s housewife whilst job hunting - I've had a couple of interviews so am hoping for good news soon (thank goodness for savings). We're hoping to start a family soon so money saving is definitely a priority as we want to live on OH salary so I can stay at home for a few years.
Hopefully regular posting will keep me focussed
    on this!

I thought it would only be right to introduce myself since you have all been so helpful over the last couple of weeks.

I'm 28, married and a stay at home mum to our 1 year old. We also have 2 very fluffy cats who are 6.

It was a tough descision to stay at home as money is so tight.
We have enough coming in to pay the mortgage (now temporarily interest only) and bills, there is a bit for baby activities and groups etc then we each have £5 a week "pocket money" to spend on luxuries (mine always goes on wine unless I need clothes).

Money may be tight but we are happy and I am able to look after our beautiful son every day, which I am thankful that I am able to do.

Hi. I'm a high school science teacher (who teaches a bit of rural science - 1 day a weeks worth of lessons on the farm, we have cows, pigs and plenty of chickens, with an annual influx of turkeys reared for Xmas). Have DH and DS (apparently both have a mental age of 3). Hopefully buying our first house soon (waiting for mortgage) which will quickly get a few chickens in the back garden.

    Hi All

Im a bit of a lurker on Old Style, have only posted a few times. Anyway......

My name is Linz, Im 24 and have been married to my darling hubby for almost 16 months. No kiddies, no pets...........just us! I have recently been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and although I work full time I have been off sick since beginning of November. You would think this would mean I would be super domesticated and organised..........hahaha! Our house is generally a bit (if not a lot) chaotic! Have decided that we really need to get some sort of organisation going on here!

Im not the best cook in the world but I try!!!

Hope to get to know you all better soon!

Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........

People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!

    Hi everyone

I've been posting on various bits of MSE for a while, but am now going to give OS a go and have just signed up to the grocery challenge, so I thought I'd better introduce myself.

I'm a single parent with two kids - a boy and a girl, both at primary school. I work part time as a teacher (3 days of work spread over 4 actual days), and I live in a rented house, although I'm trying to save for a house deposit.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I've been married for three years , and we live with a gorgeous rescue moggie who regularly drives us crazy. I've only just discovered this forum, although we've been practicing old -style things for some time. The food saving ideas are a real inspiration!

  • I've been lurking on here for a few months now, thought it was probably about time I introduced my self.
I work full time in the computer industry and I'm mad for adrenaline sports.
Climbing, wakeboarding hopefully snowboarding soon (found a great discount on that in the UK ;) )Been to Aldi to get all my snowboard gear, saved a fortune!
I live in a rented house, but my lovely bloke has his own place and once all the kerfuffule with ex partners is over we plan to move in together :j then we can truely become MSE! for now it's small steps.

I've got a stomach disorder so tend to make most food from scratch, already love my slow cooker :D and enjoy making bread - no bread machine here tho :)
Need to crack out the old sewing machine and work on mending rather than buying.
I do have this nasty habbit of impulse buying eeeeek!

Just wish there was a bit more time in the day :rotfl:
Might just have to join the flylady thread - gawd knows I need the motivation.
It's just not easy when you've just mopped the floor and get doggy prints all over it! :rotfl:
