Hi am 28 & mum to my 4yr son. I am disable due to a problem with my pelvis, i am in pain all the time which leaves me feeling a bit down. my dad recommended this site to me after saving himself a fourtune!
I'm in alot of debt, it was affordable when i worked but not now. I used to iggnore phone calls/letters and got loads of charges. After reading some info on this site i have tried to deal with them. I need to make loads of cutbacks so have found the old style money saving great. I have made my own bread, cakes and biscutes so i have saved some money but had great fun doing it and my DS & OH love them! I have tried downshifting and want to start the grosery challenge next month. I love the energy saving posts and have tried some of them.
Just want to say a big THANKYOU to all who post there fab ideas!
Forgot to add that i am a voluntier at the C.A.B, good with other peoples debts but not my own, All change now thanks to this site! "work" have been great with me too i was afraid they would take a dim view of my debt and think i was not fit to do my job not the case at all thay all shared with me there money worries ect. Also its great as i know what the clients feel like when they come in and can empathise with them0 -
Hello!
I'm 35 and live in Morayshire, Scotland ( no we haven't got any snow! *jealous*)
I'm married and have two children, one living at home, and I work full time pretty much from home as a Registered Childminder - and I currently have 2 mindees of 2yo and 10mo.
I've started the Grocery Challenge for the first time this month and looking forward to it
You'll find I nip on for 5 mins when I can in the day ( ie when kids are asleep!)Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

Hi
I am 44 years old and have four kids 21 down to 7. The oldest is away at uni in term time. I have been lurking for a long time and an old time money saver for the past 20 odd years. I would never say I am happy that we have a credit crunch but it is strange how all my quirky ways of life have suddenly become very fashionable!!!
I always cook from scratch, make do and mend, shop around and generally try to be a good steward of my money. I would not say it has made me rich but it has saved me from massive debts.
Don`t get me wrong I still like nice things such as shoes and handbags .........goes all dreamy eyed !! But i very rarely buy full price.
Thanks to all of you for your helpful posts and tips.Hello Payday! How are. . Hey where are you going? . . Please don't walk out on me.

I don't like to waste my money, I work too hard for it! I'm pleased that my scratch cooking, grow my own, sewing, cycling, going to car boot sales and recycling have all come back into fashion - I'm no longer seen as eccentric or penny pinching by all the relatives.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
I'm a mum to three, two away at uni. I work full time but would love to be part time. I have five cats, three guinea pigs, two black labs and an empty hen house.

Looby loo thank you for being a woman after my own heart. BTW have you managed to pass it on to your kids. My DS at uni is doing really well and even asked for a breadmaker to take back to uni with him.
UP THE ECCENTRICS AND PENNY PINCHERS

Hello there :hello: to emjay123, TrixieB, griffam and looby-loo.
Good to meet you and welcome to OldStyle.
I can't believe how many are regularly viewing this board at various times of the day. When I first came on here (July 2007) there were around 160-200 at the busiest time of the day, there's now sometimes more than 300 during the day - possibly lunch-break posters . But just goes to show how our community has grown.

Hi, I'm 46 & married with 2 kids, 18 & 12. Found these boards when we suddenly found ourselves with huge mortgage having moved & sale of old house fell through at last minute.
OH has highly stressful job in management & I run a small Avon business from home.
Have to say how many tips I have picked up on & really enjoy the savings made. All helps towards the mortgage. Stardrops has got to be the biggest find. I can't beleive how much I used to spend on cleaning products before.0 -
Hello, I'm married (my DH got early retirement a year and a bit ago)
and trying to save as much as possible to be able to cope when I (inevitably) get made redundant (I narrowly escaped the last wave of redundancies) and enter the world of early retirement. I was brought up in the ways of thrift when we lived through the 70s (does anyone remember Home & Freezer Digest?) and was delighted to find this forum. I have some wonderful old recipe and household economy books and am looking forward to having time to use them ...0 -
:hello: Hello everyone
I am new to this part of MSE forums so excuse me for any mistakes.
I have to learn to try and cut my shopping bill as best I can. There is just me and husband and 2 dogs to provide for on benefits.
1 problem I have though he won't eat most fruit or veg (other than potatoes, tomatoes as in soup or sauces, a spoonfull of carrotts and peas) it is a bit of a nightmare and he wont change as its something psychological since he was in school so its not as if me or his parents havent tried but its simpler to find a way around it. It doesnt matter if I try and be sneaky and hide or disguise he will notice and not eat it! Tried almost every trick in the book!As for me I will eat most stuff and need to start eating healthily to lose weight
Anyway I have just acquired a slow cooker and a streamer from Freecycle so am hoping to learn how to cook economically with them and in other ways.
Hope this gives a good idea of me as a newbie and hope to make some friends and learn some skills in the kitchen
ThanksFailure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!
