Picked up the Armstrong and Miller book in Durham Poundland. Really amusing and a great Christmas gift.

I also noticed - and bought- old style dimple 500ml beer mugs. Those of us over a certain age will remember these being in pubs, they were banned as they are lethal weapons in fights. These particular mugs have a blank circular plaque on them - if you have a glass engraving tool and the skill, they could be personalised. I suspect they are ex gift catalogue stock.

Darlington Poundland had safety can openers - actually better than the Magic Can openers and the same design. Better, as the handles were designed with a gap in them to make them easier to force apart. I have to use a knife blade twisted between the two handles to get my Magic Can to open.

My local Canterbury had some pink silicon Playstation controller covers, thought it might make a nice gift for a girly gamer. There were other pink items on the same display such as a USB stick but I didn't have long so didn't get to look at much. Hope it helps someone.

Well the Tooting Poundland shop ain't got a clue about customer service nor the Sale Of Goods Act.

........what do you think, Martin? Can I have a job? :D

Please tell me this is a wind-up? :rotfl:

Your quote "Also they run out of any of the interesting stock (easy, as it sells well) but don't get any more in, even though there's spare stock in other stores nearby, so it looks like there's not a shortage. " shows you have no understanding of the retail business at this level. The prices are £1 and already have delivery costs factored in, transferring stock between stores would destroy their business model.

That was not newmum's quote! Newmum was quoting another poster (the delightful racist ranty one) who was wittering about the stock levels, it wasn't newmum herself.

As with others on this page, I'd say please don't hesitate.

I've recommended them here before and fulfilled requests to buy from others.

Treat them as you would any other cake storage i.e. appropriate foil/greaseproof/kitchen roll lining, according to what sort of baking you've done.

There was a documentary on the box a few months ago, now I'm not certain it was Poundland, but it was a discount retailer and the employee who had survived long enough, was now manageress and Polish.
She was under tremendous pressure from above re achieving targets and from below in the form of minimum wage employees, who were they any good got out and were somewhat alienated from their pay and conditions.
Unsurprisingly the manageress in the middle was developing a very hard nosed attitude.

This all seemed to come as a surprise to the top management - but in fairness they had installed the "mystery worker" into the branches to find out what was really going on.
