aliEnRIK has a point, Hi-fi is quite a different ball game from most other electrical items eg a kettle, it can be very sensitve to change...a deck cartridge is sensitive to temperature. Changing cables does affect sound but it depends what you think is "Better". Cleaning all plugs once in a while can help but I don't agree that there is much you can do with a TV apart from making sure connections are all "sound".
Nothing worth watching anyway so why waste your money.

As for this James Randi bloke, if hes willing to pay 1 million then he can bring himself to my house. Ill hook up his monster cables (with a guy representing MONSTER to prove that they are in fact monster cables with the code clearly on the cable and whatever price they are to buy. And run them for a few hours with whatever TEST discs we choose. he can bring some and I'll have my own. The we shall swop and see what the differences are. Its really down to these monsters though. How much are they? Monster do make good cables, I have some myself but my speaker cables are custom made (16 core solid silver and hyper pure copper interwoven with silver plated spade connectors) which is what they would be competing against
haha ~ id be nuts NOT to take this one up.You come on over Randi mate, and bring that cash with you..........:idea:0 -

He doesn't do the tests himself (so he doesn't get accused of interfering) in fact he's not told of the date of any test. If you were really serious you should contact the Foundation since it is their money and they have an overwhelming number of crackpots applying that they have to sift through so make it clear what you're claiming and then you mutually agree on a fair logical double blind test. The prize is a general one for anything that's supernatural, i.e. not based on real science or critical thinking. So that includes everyone from psychics to dowsers to perpetual motion machines to audiophile pseudoscience so making some obscure request on a forum is obviously not going to achieve very much.
Note: to date after hundreds of tests for all sorts of claims not a single claim has managed to get through the preliminary test. Funny how it always fails on the day."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

All hifi, tvs (especially hdtvs) included are highly dependant on having a CLEAN power supply to feed on. Most peoples houses have a truly awful feed (mine included) so once the hdtv is plugged through a decent mains conditioner and then with a decent mains lead and left to run for a month or more (I say that as the differences are only really clear after a couple of hours whilst the tv becomes accustom to the change in the supply and then burns in and after a month you will see a CLEAR and MEMORABLE difference to where you originally started) and the differences will be clear as daylight. Ive since done this with 2 philips CRT tvs 2 Panasonic CRT tvs 2 Pioneer Hdtvs and one Samsung hdtv, ALL with very positive results. By positive I mean they ALL looked sharper, more 3 dimensional, showed more detail and more vibrant and 'true to life' colours. In short, a hell of a lot better BEFORE they were plugged through the mains lead and conditioner.:idea:0 -

lets get it right, ive better things to do than goto wherever I needed to to get through his TESTS. I stand by MY claim, hes willing to come here hes WAY more than invited. YOU COME ON OVER RANDI
As people need to get through HIS tests then im kinda intrigued actually. Im guessing his set up is c*rap and therefore all the BETTER quality leads will actually sound WORSE as they will pick up al the exra interference which is why everyones failing (I would assume). My test is simple. On MY system, we try my leads, then his leads, then back to mine again with any number of BLIND testers, doesnt worry me any.:idea:0 -

Perfect example of why double blind tests are demanded. Gets rid of the psychological/placebo element.
Mains conditioning affecting a HDTV display??? I think not."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Your quite happily invited to come over and Ill show you
Thats no word of a lie, if your willing to travel to farington in the North West then your happily invited to come along and I'll prove to your eyes and ears what you seem so positive to shout me down on. Care to take me up on this?
I would love to but I'm a bit out of the way unfortunately.Bring a cheap kettle lead with you and whatever hdmi cable you use. We shall plug them in first and run a few test discs. Then I'll plug my mains cable in to prove that kettle leads are rubbish. Then I'll put my hdmi back in run the same tests and watch your jaw drop
Have you ever been in a recording studio?
What music are you listening to that wasn't recorded with racks and racks of equipment all powered with cheap mains cable? My dad has a pioneer tv but the old style (no hdmi)
Theres ONE main bloke who repairs them in the North West region that pioneer hire. He said without reservation that my dads tv picture quality was by FAR the best he had ever seen and was highly intrigued as to how that could be as hed seen hundreds of the same model.
I know why, my dad knows why and the service bloke now knows why. You sir will probably never know why...........
Unfortunately I don't have funny electricity and equipment that ignore the laws of physics.
We always miss out on everything in Northern Ireland....:o0 -

They're not "HIS tests", that's the point. I'm pretty sure I typed "mutual". I'm guessing from your comment of "BLIND testers" you don't have much of a logical thinking or scientific background and so misunderstood what is meant by a "double blind test"."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

As pointed out, he doesn't do the testing. If a member of his staff can't attend, then he appoints a representative who will travel to you if needs be.
If you want to prove to me that what you say is true, this is your opportunity. Here are the rules and application form:

Let's not pretend that you have "better things to do" than win $1,000,000.0 -

Ill do any test anyone wants so long as its fair. But to be honest I REALLY DONT CARE. If your happy with what you have and dont want to spend any extra cash then fair enough. If you want better quality then I'll happily give what advice I can on a subject I myself have tested to the best of MY ability.
Right, getting bored now..........:idea:0
