Im going to repeat this from the 'other' thread as people dont seem to be getting their heads round this anytime soon ~
Until the tv is fed by a decent mains supply then its highly unlikely ANYONE is going to see a difference by just switching the hdmi cable as the tv is struggling to play a decent picture as it is.
Its simple ~ you start at the beginning and work your way through. The VERY first thing to 'upgrade' is mains. So thats a conditioner (40 quid from Maplins) and a silver plated and braided mains lead (35 ish from ebay), Goto settings and switch off ALL of the extra c*ap the manufacturers have put into the mix as this only makes things worse. (philips pixel plus for instance is awful ~ switch it off)
Get a hold of a THX test disc (Star Wars, terminator 2 or whatever) and use it to correctly set the contrast, brightness and sharpness (shouldnt actually be able to change sharpness when using a hdmi lead though). Then put on various discs and set the colour up so that skin tones look natural and not an overblown RED (as lots of people seem to do)
After a month, redo the whole procedure as it more than likely will have changed slightly (especially the COLOUR)
Then lastly after 6 months or so (Or if the colour keeps on getting more INTENSE as they invariably tend to do ~ a CLEAR sign of 'burn in')
Job done:idea:0 -
Fair comments but the conditioner works I assure you. I dont know of any hifi electronics that have built in conditioners as they ASSUME that as you have their hifit then the signal going into it is clean. Though to be fair you would get positive results by simply using a decent mains cable plugged DIRECTLY into the mains (by this I mean nearly everyone (wrongly) has their tvs and hifi plugged into a c*appy mains extension that KILLS the main supply)
I am guilty of using extensions with every thing plugged in together.0 -

Modern electronic equipment inc TV's use "Switched mode power supplies" which unlike their linear predecessors convert the incoming AC 110-230V into DC 110-230V which is switched at high frequency usually around 10KHz using IGBT's or MOSFET devices, it is then fed to a voltage regulator circuit which gives you multiple DC supply rails depending on the application.
The power supply does all the filtering of the mains 230V AC 50Hz and is isolated via an isolation barrier, usually these power supplies are controlled with PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) or the el-cheapo designs use a crude "buck converter" arrangement. If however the appliance uses a linear power supply i.e. one that has a transformer to drop the mains then any additional filtering is a bonus.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

I've got a TV with built in Freeview and a separate DVD recorder.
Try as I might I cannot get the DVD recorder to pick up the Freeview from the TV. However I scan it, the DVD recorder will only pick up the analogue TV channels 1 - 5.
Any one know why or how I can fix it?
Thanks0 -

You would be better starting a new thread of your own as I guess that many readers are fed up with this one by now!
Does your TV have more than one scart socket? Try using another one. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
aliEnRIK, you seem to have missed this from earlier:

Well you CAN do this with a mains conditioner (the 40 quid TACIMA maplins one allows upto 6 devices)
Though for now just plug the tv straight into the wall to take the mains extension out of the mix
I'm actually not too worried about TV, I'm more into music and so, out of interest could I use my computer protected UPS on my Hi-Fi (or TV) to improve things? (I don't always listen to digits).0
