I've got a TV with built in Freeview and a separate DVD recorder.

Try as I might I cannot get the DVD recorder to pick up the Freeview from the TV. However I scan it, the DVD recorder will only pick up the analogue TV channels 1 - 5.

Any one know why or how I can fix it?

    Thanks :)

I had an LCD TV and it only had a mono analogue sound output.Maybe yours is the same for TV? Hope not!

I'm actually not too worried about TV, I'm more into music and so, out of interest could I use my computer protected UPS on my Hi-Fi (or TV) to improve things? (I don't always listen to digits).

Get someone to switch between them and see if you can tell the difference.

And read through that link above about power cables.

aliEnRIK thinks acoustically treating a room makes no difference to the sound, but an expensive power cables does.

I guess there's no glamour in rockwool.

    Cheers Marty J,
I think I've read just about enough, However my power here had wrecked computers it is so bad, hence the UPS and I'm not (still) convinced clean power does not make a difference, especially to sensitive analogue stuff.
It's generally well known that placing your equipment causes a difference, especially onto glass....anyone put a TV on a glass table?...but I don't think it has ever been proven why has it?

Science has never proven anything, just causes more problems. Belief is much better, it doesn't cause headaches and worries and makes people happy and it makes your TV sound and look better too...but it still can't improve the programmes

Electricity can certainly cause problems, as you've found out to your cost. It can introduce interference into an analogue signal but if you're looking for something that's open up the sound stage, make your lows lower and your highs higher, you're out of luck I'm afraid. As far as audiophile esoterica goes, this explains it all.

With regard to the awfulness of TV programmes (and I notice Channel 4 has launched yet another channel to show Big Brother on), take heart in the fact that you don't live in the US. American television is stupefyingly bad.

Science is the reason you are sitting in front of your telly typing on MSE mate. ;)
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

If you are having "noise" problems on an analogue system, try winding the signal cable around some ferrite material to create an RF choke, it works for most applications.

Or go to farnell, Radio Spares or Maplin and buy a couple of these; ferrite1.jpg...for about £1.50 each.
