DustyKitten - My in-laws LOVE me (for some reason) but my MI:L likes to "help" and tidy up for me, which is lovely of her but aside from finding it slightly insulting I'm afraid she isn't that good at it, puts things in the wrong places and generally messes up my "system" so I'd rather she just came in and said "wow the house looks lovely" and then sits down and plays with her much missed GSs rather than trying to make my house tidy.
Mumoffour77 Welcome to flying, I've only been here a few weeks and already it has made a huge difference. I must say I think you are crazy taking on more kids for the day when you have 4, I moan about my 2 being too much for me!!!

    Hung washing out!
    Kettle on.
OH still sleeping but I'm working on that by playing PlanetRock really loud!!

I haven't done any flying this weekend at all. But chin up and time to get into gear tomorrow.
I have 2 young boys 3 and 2 months, but can't use them as an excuse - michelle - you are a real inspiration because mine are not as young as yours, how do you do it?

my house still has moments of looking like a shed ;) but i keep trying

i'd say really it is easy to think we are all sat in immaculate houses but we aren't.

    1) ds1 is fairly good, and mostly watches telly/plays with toys alone, and i watch him and play with him for some of the time ds2 sleeps to keep him that way.

    2) i get ds1 to help - he loads the wm, picks up toys while i hoover, passes me pegs or clothes when hanging out washing, puts things in bin if i ask him, stirs things in the kitchen with my help, pick post up in porch, feeds the cats crunchies, turns the WM on, puts his and babys clothes in laundry basket for me. he loves making a mess and then singing the 'clean up' song from barney

    3) if i want to do something ds1 can't help with then he is happy to play with a wind chime hung at his height, the plastic recycling, a pan and spoon

    4) i try and read with him while breastfeeding so again he feels like he has quality time

    5) if they are both happy, then i start a job, and do what i can the best i can - if i try and wait for time to do it perfect it won't get done

    6) i praise myself for everything i do get done - i always think it isn't enough but i know i am a perfectionist.

    7) ds1 still goes to nursery on a tuesday 8am-5, so i try to get some things done then, and also naps 2-3 hours most afternoons, and in bed by 7:30 at latest

    8) i always try to multi-task , eg cook 2 meals at once, do something in kitchen while kettle boils

    9) i always get dressed when i get up before dh goes to work. it causes least mess and stress

rome wasn't built in a day, and i have been doing flying since 2006 before both boys were born, so it probably seems a lot more natural to me. my routines are in place, and if i am having an off day something still gets done - remember our boys are only small, and the most important thing is time with them, a bit of dust or clutter will not matter one bit to them, but a grumpy unhappy tired no fun mummy will.

food/clothes/entertainment come first, and the rest gets done when i can

tip for cleaning oven when it is still warm, i put some white vinegar on a washing up sponge and the gunk comes off with fairly minimal scrubbing. not perfect, but better than lots of strong chemicals when my boys are around

Crafty can you use Energy saving bulbs with your timer?
Yes - seems to work OK. I'm not sure if it shortens the life of the bulb but since the bulb is on all evening (and early morning in winter) I prefer to use energy saving. Also have them in the lights in living room.

For all of the newcomers, something that I really enjoy doing to help me get motivated, is the HHC (half hour challenges) where we all set a time and then meet back up after half an hour and see how much we've all done. If you want to cross things off your list, you need to go advanced, highlight the bit you want crossed out, and click on the S with a line through it.

Does anyone want to join me in a HHC 1015-1045?
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Can I join in? I've had a lovely quiet weekend. I've done a few bits and bobs but nothing worth mentioning!

My HHC will be spent doing a general 'pick-up'!!
Then I'll get started on today's list...

Monday Melee - Kitchen and Dining Room
    Level One
    Clear and wipe kitchen surfaces
    Clear 1 window sill
    Level Two
    Sweep and mop floors
    Scrub out the sticky fridge!
Wipe dining table.. (clean table cloth if necessary)
    Level Three
Dust any extra furniture in dining area, checking for cobwebs on way round
Wipe and replace all those small appliances.. kettle, toaster etc
Clean cupboard door fronts and fronts of appliances .. don't forget those kick boards..
Clean out your mankiest kitchen cupboard..
    Extra Mission : help yourself
    1. Clean the hob
    2. Wipe down any tiles and shine those taps.. a toothbrush is great for cleaning away the gunk!
    3. 32 fling boogie..
    4. Phone someone you love just to tell them so!
    5. Empty the bin.. wash it out.. and make it smell SWEET

Just a quickie to say I am back in again this week.

My aunt is coming to visit. She is the one who runs her fingers over things and says she is coming for an inspection. I have the stair gate up so she can't get upstairs and I will be super sonic flying with DS3 before she arrives. I am actually shaking, she will be here at midday. Must fly!!
