Oh, would love a wet room, are you getting all that tanking done? Can I ask how much its costing?
We live in sheltered housing and the wet room is being installed by the local council as my OH has a number of helath problems. The chap came to see us last monday to measure and told us the total cost is £5,000......the titchy bath is coming out and the shower with a seat fitted in the space along with a floor to ceiling screen, new wash basin and loo and the floor covered with non slip flooring. it is a pumped system, the pump will go in the airing cupbard which is behind the bath alcove.
Its an electric shower unit, we have a district heating system in the apartments which supplies all our ot water and central heating, we pay for this in with the rent.
After 12 months of having strip washes and the occasional bath it will be utter bliss to be able to roll out of bed and into a shower for us both......Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
As per the article that tiff references:
Water on - get wet - water off - lather up - water on - rinse. Several on/off cycles may be required to do face, body and hair with different products.

Sounds a bit like what I used to do when living in Moscow many years ago - where they shut off the hot water in each city district for 6 weeks every summer (for maintenance, they said). I would boil a big pan of water on the hob, empty it into a bucket and add cold water to get a good temperature.
I placed the bucket in the bath, and 'showered' with a very large mug. It worked fine and I never needed more than this one bucket for washing my hair and the rest of me. So I know it can be done.
Still if you had friends in a different district, you would often arrange to have the occasional proper bath or shower at their apartment and vice-versa during hot water shutdown time."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -

Someone gave a link to a "Guardian" article earlier this week - actual cost of a bath according to them is 19p. Breathe again.....was just starting to work out my guidelines as to how to work out which people not to stand too close to - or hold my breath if I had to
. Thinks....havent forgotten having had to buy (natural of course being ceridwen!) air spray stuff to keep at work when I had to work near one particular colleague. I took the view that if he was inconsiderate enough to inflict his B.O. on other people - then I didnt have to worry about offending him by spraying this around.;) Dont think he has clicked to this day why I always stayed several feet away from him...and spent a lot of time not looking too closely at him either (the greasy hair!).
Well - at least I've found out some clues in the last week as to how come my fuel bill (living on own) is not much less than a family's - I was wondering - duh! thoughts of shared baths never even crossed my mind;)0 -
I was helping my daughter with her school homework recently, and she had to find out how much water different things used.
We cut the top off a plastic 2 litre cola bottle, then held it under the shower to time how long it took to fill.
It took...... 5 seconds.. ..... that = 24 litres a min
its a mixer bath tap hose thing with a pump to power it.
Up till then I used to take ages in the shower as I thought I was saving water.:rotfl:“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

When I was growing up, Sunday night was bath night. You'd only have one per week.
Many people have a shower, thinking that by having a shower they're using less water, but they end up having a looooong shower and use more than a bath would have. I shower for 3-4 minutes if I'm washing and 5-6 minutes MAX if I'm doing the works, shampoo/conditioner, complete defuzz.
Most people have never found out the flow rate of their shower, or the capacity of their bath, nor thought about the water heating costs. They will start to soon.0 -
When my Mum got a new bathroom put in recently, they did away with the bath as they dont use it. The owner of the bathroom company that fitted the new one said that in the last 18 months the number of people having baths removed and not replaced had increased considerably.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

My sister has a 2 person bath. I always thought it was a waste of water as it used most of her hot water to fill it, and she has a big tank. I can't see many people having these on their shopping lists these days. You couldn't even have a shallow bath if you wanted as the jacuzzi jets on, as they're half way up the inside.0
