you want to give a brand new driver a 220bhp car??!!!!

    that's insanity.
Why? Its only a Focus for goodness sake - don't know what the 220 stuff is, but they are really nice MrsE. Check out the insurance - it probably isn't that bad at all, ok it may cost her a bit more. But they are a lovely car, and the seats are all sporty looking.

Jeannie. Seriously. Please listen to me. That is NOT a new driver car - well, not unless they have a death wish.

Group 17 is porsche territory. The cars Mrs E is talking about are about 80bhp (it's the power in the engine). 220bhp is like going at 150mph when the limit is 30mph.

Insurance would be about 5k - if she could find anyone that would cover it.

I'm pale at the thought of it. A basic focus with options wouldn't be too bad (group 8 maybe). An ST with a new driver is a deathwish.

I drive a group 20 car. I'm 30 years old, and I have full no claims. My car is 340bhp (next things up from that are ferraris and lambos and veyrons ;))

Car is garaged, alarmed, immobiliser AND has a tracker on it. My insurance is over a grand each year.

I agree with tinkerbell84 that no way would a new driver get insurance on a Focus ST. Nor should they.

Tinkerbell - a car is only as fast as you drive it.

MrsE - she is trying to scare you. Porsh - its a Ford, ST Focus is a Ford for heavens sake.

They come in really nice colours - not too sure of the orange - although saw a new shape one in orange the other day and they have made it more metallic and it doesn't look so common. But not sure it is Surrey tho - more Essex. The blue is pretty.

    I feel sick.

Do you know how hard it is to drive such a high powered car? What do you drive Jeannie?

I don't think she is trying to scare you at all. A more powerful car has lightening fast reactions. Touch the accellerator just a tiny bit too hard and you're upside down. I've watched it happen with experienced drivers.

My friend rolled my 306 GTI about 8 times - that was about 130bhp and she was an inexperienced driver.

Ford make rally cars. Ford win rallies. The fact that it's a Ford doesn't mean it's easy to drive, or low powered.

If you need me to get technical, I will. I doubt Lewis Hamilton's first car was 220bhp ;)

Actually now you mention it, someone said that ford are bringing out a new Focus at the end of the year MrsE - your daughter may want to wait, its an SR. It might be nicer that the ST.

And there is that Ford place near you, you may get a good deal from them.

Who's Lewis Hamilton? Is that the little guy on the Jeremy Clarkson show?

Just because he had an accident in that rocket car, hardly makes any relevance on this thread.

They call him the Hamster or something.
