A good few people (myself included) have had trouble getting them to cough up once the account has been switched. Beware of some of the Ts and Cs concerning timescales and the like.

    Hi everyone,
I applied for the Premium Direct Account and was turned down saying that I could have the normal account.
I rang up and was given the e-mail address for the underwriting department (underwriting.review@alliance-leicester.co.uk).

I sent the e-mail and within the 8 days from the automated reply e-mail. I was accepted with the Premium Direct Account.

I now have a referer and two people lined up for the vouchers. Brill news for me, hope it all works out well. :j
  • More of the same! Having opened the Premier Plus account, I was pleased with the whole process, all my direct debits and standing orders being transferred smoothly, a good rate of interest, free travel insurance etc. I therefore encouraged my younger son and prospective daughter-in-law to do the same for their new joint account. Some months later, not having received the £50, I enquired what was happening. I was informed by A&L that they had not received the completed voucher (which I had of course sent off). I re-sent it. I then received a letter saying that we had been turned down because we did not meet the conditions for the offer. The letter listed several possibilities but told me that they could not tell me which one(s) we did not meet for reasons of data protection! My son later received a letter indicating that he had not funded his account with the required amount of money within the required period of time. This was in fact true - but they had omitted to acknowledge that the reason for this was that they had completely messed up of the transfer of all the direct debits and standing orders from their previous accounts, including salary. Several charges from other banks (thankfully re-funded) and several letters to Alliance & Leicester later, we finally received the money.

Funny coincidence that, when my son recommended the account to his brother (before he had all the problems!), the anticipated £50 didn't appear in their accounts either. On ringing A&L, he discovered - guess what!? -that they had not received any completed voucher!!!! The replacement voucher was duly sent off. Some weeks later, not having received any money, my son rang Alliance & Leicester to be told - you'll see where I'm going by now!? - that his brother had not credited his account with the required money in the required period of time!!!! Leaving aside the problems they had had with transfer of standing orders as well, his brother was able to get them to admit on the phone that he had credited his account properly. We're still waiting to see the outcome of this one.of

As I said earlier in the thread I complained when my direct debits went wrong and got compensation. If anyone wants any text PM me

By the way I recommended Mrs Mad and we had the 50 quids within 3 weeks. Don't know how but first deposit made was exactly £1000

The main one is the fact that the regular payments need to be received within 8 weeks (I think) of opening the account to qualify for the £50 each.

As they made such a mess of transfering my direct debits and standing orders, I was unable to transfer my salary for a couple of months otherwise my old account would have had all the direct debits refused as there would have been insufficient funds. They then tried to use this as the excuse for not coughing up, and I ended up writing a rather stroppy letter pointing out all the delays were because of them. They also claimed they did not receive the recommend a friend voucher, despite them reading out the details to me during an earlier phone call!

Now the account is up and running, its fine (apart from the annoying way it logs me out if I don't click anything for a couple of minutes). The call centre lot in Liverpool seem more competent than those elsewhere.

You are lucky to get your £50 This is, to put it mildly, incorect. See, for example, my post #76 dated 28/07 in Best Current Accounts Discussion Area ...

Not got it yet, still waiting.
Thanks for the tip on the under funding £5 fine.
