Hi all, Me and my partner are both on 02 with contracts expired and are thinking Iphone - prob 3GS x2 any suggestions/ people out there who have done/are thinking about doing the same??
thanks in advance
O2 are very expensive for the 3GS. Three were doing the 32gb in black for £29 on a 24 month contract. I believe that O2 are looking for over £250 for the same model over the same period. If you can negotiate the unit price down then I would say go for it as my wife has a 3GS and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. Unlike some on here, I can honestly say she has had no problems with the firmware upgrades either. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Does the 8GB 3GS come with the updated software??0

Unlock it and get a o2 simplicity tariff (£15 over 12 months)-You will then get unlimited texts, minutes and data download included.
Orange can unlock it for you normally if the phone is over 12 months old or you might have to give them £10/£20 for them to unlock.
I've just been on the O2 site & saw that tariff. Perfect for me, as I only spend about £15 every two months on PAYG now & couldn't face a big jump in phone bill.
Now I need to source a cheap (old model) iphone, DH has just got the 4g, its amazing. But I would be happy with an old model.
Where is the best place to buy an old iphone? Are you better using a site which gives you a short warrantly rather than ebay or similar?0 -

I had an iPhone4 for a while but have returned it to Apple for a refund. There were some signal issues although the main reason was I didn't want to tie up £500 in a mobile when I already have a 3GS. The plan was to sell the 3GS to partially fund the new iPhone4 however its just not worth it ..... despite what Mr Jobs tells us.0 -
I am 6 months into a 24 month contract with Vodaphone and hate my Nokia E72. I would like to buy an iphone 4 to replace it and simply chamge my contract to a microsim (which Vodafone say they can do). Is the best place to buy the phone the Apple Store? Any advice would be great as it is very expensive and any cash I can save would be fab!
Apologies if this is in the wrong place on the forum - it's my first post!!0 -
Hi Becks. Welcome to the forum.
Buying direct from Apple will give you the reassurance of the 30 day return policy and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to join the queue for a free bumper, but I suggest you go in to an Apple store (or a Vodafone store) and have a play with the phone first - there's nothing worse than spending a lot of money on something, only to find that you don't like it!!
You can get cashback through some sites - Quidco will get you 3% off a 3GS, but nothing off the iPhone 4. The thing to remember is that this would be a saving of less than the cost of a bumper!!
Go have a play. If you like it, buy it. If not, put it back on the shelf and walk away.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

This has been covered several times before. Phone insurance is a waste of money. Speak to your home insurers (contents) and check to see if you have "away from home" or "personal possessions" cover (same thing - different name). If you do, they are probably covering your phone anyway so just ask them to confirm this. If you don't have the cover, ask for 2 quotes:
1. To add the Personal Possessions cover with £3,000 limit & including the phone
2. To add the phone only
Both quotes will include an admin charge, so ask what this is - it's a fee you pay to cover the costs of providing the paperwork so is only a one-off. Sometimes, for your own peace of mind, it's worth having the phone specified anyway. This should cost you a couple of pounds only (after the admin charge).
The excess on PP cover is usually £50, so double that of the mobile phone insurance. The cost, however, is lower and the cover better. Mobile phone insurance does not cover theft whilst unattended (ie, you are in a cafe and leave your bag on the table whilst going to pay and come back to find it's been stolen). PP cover not only insures your phone, but your bag and its contents too!!
STOP WASTING MONEY!!!!!!!
I've never seen the benefit of using home insurance (and also travel insurance) to cover personal possessions. You have to bear in mind not just the excess to pay but also the higher renewal costs when shopping around for new insurance if having to declare a recent claim.0 -
My iphone 4's arrived at the Apple Retail Store. I was only notified after they'd closed today and the collection date is for tomorrow only! Not impressed really as it's not exactly local and means a Monday evening trip after work.
My PAC from T-Mobile has just expired so I'll have to get another one, presumably this won't cause a problem and they'll do it straight away.
As I originally planned to go with Tesco Mobile and gave up when the phones weren't available, I now have to decide which network to go with.
Can anyone advise? Is there a problem with cutting down SIMS if I don't chose O2?
Also am I stupid to be going ahead with this bearing in mind the possible reception problems? I've never had good reception with any networks in my home.0
