Bath's in. Shower's plumbed. Tidy, our fitters, aren't they?
  • Hi Phirefly, Just read the first and last page of this thread so excuse my ignorance.

You obviously went with fitters but how are you finding it? happy with the decision, are you on budget?

We're only halfway through, but so far couldn't be happier.

I work from home and our house is pretty small, so I was anticipating a bit of a nightmare, but its been absolutely plain sailing.

We were quoted £2500 initally, (just for the fit - I've bought all the parts separately) which we negotiated down to £2200. So far, subsequently to the quote, we've decided to have a summer element wired into our towel rail, so that will be extra, and I've had a reinforcement put in the wall as we decided to have a bath screen. I'm anticipating a final fitting bill of around £2400.

As far as the budget for the suite and componets, we've paid an extra £80 for a bath screen and £82 for a custom wall to wall mirror. And I've just had a shocker at Screwfix - bought a few sundries and the bill came to £175  . Other than that, we're pretty on-budget. I'll post a full breakdown of the costs at the end of the job.

Its a lot of money for the fitters, and we soul searched a bit before going ahead but now they're here, I feel we've done the right thing. Work is progressing at a rate of knots, its all extremely well crafted and they have pointed out potential pitfalls and issues we'd not have spotted until it was too late. Couldn't be happier :)

Umm...you do realise that's a twin bath and not a shower bath, don't you? The floor probably won't be reinforced or have antislip and the sloping side where you stand isn't going to be ideal. It looks fantastic though. :)

The bath is no less reinforced/more slippy than the one we took out and the shower arm is 400mm so we'll be well clear of the slope.
  • Wow I never knew baths were actually so complicated. I've been in loads of bathrooms where the shower has been at the 'wrong' end and never had a problem. Also never had an antislip bath in all the houses I've lived at.

Phirefly, I love your bath, it's very posh :)

How long do the fitters estimate the entire job will take? Mine have said 2 weeks and looking at how fast yours is going I'm wondering if they are going to disappear for a few days in the middle or something.

They said just over a week, they started on Wednesday, and plan to be finished by next Thursday, maybe Friday if there are any unforseen snags. They have disappeared for a few days - but it is the weekend!! I've got a flushing loo though.
