Not personally a fan of bumpy white tiles - innocuous but you see them far too often in other people's houses for my liking really, but if the place isn't for you in the long term then price has to be a consideration. I like white, I'd jazz it up with a bit of colour somewhere though. Maybe some colourful tiles on the floor or a colourful border (vertical please - horizontal is so 2000 dahling ;)) - you'll find buying sheet of mosaic cheaper than separate border tiles.

Floor tiles aren't that cold if it's an upstairs room because the earth isn't sucking all the warmth out of them.

I've tiled the entire walls of bathrooms in white, just think personality needs to be injected somewhere.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Still undecided on the floor, tiles is still an option or vinyl of some sort. Its ground floor and concrete so could get cold but its probably the warmest room in the flat. I've kind of de-personalised myself from the flat as I'm probably going to rent it out, and even if i dont i'm not going to be here forever so theres no point worrying about things in too much detail!
  • I have a plumber *jumps up and down*

1st December I get my bathroom fitted _and_ tiled. All for £1650. Very happy as I've finally managed to do some bartering :)

Now I just gotta win that radiator from eBay. Got a few weeks to try and get one...last resort will be PTS as recommended by andyhop I believe.

Should you not be using the green backed plasterboard in wet /areas with moisture? I'm re-doing my bathroom and this was the advice I was given by everyone I spoke to, it is a bit more expensive but I only want to do it once/right.
  • I do not envy you being in the loft. I don't even venture in there.

I worked out the BTUs to be just above 2000. Forget the exact number now.

    I'm having a dilemma. I can't decide anything.

I want to pay £278.66 for the radiator and valves just to keep things easy and so it's done and dusted.

But if for arguments sake I won the ebay one at £150, with the valves that would be a saving of £100. That'd buy a nice cabinet for the bathroom.

I'm a bit nervous of the ebay one. It's actually a John Sydney radiator, but I love the look of it. More so than the standard style radiators. I can't find much info on John Sydney, only that Bristan took on the JS2 range under their name. I emailed the seller to check the Bristan valves would fit the JS quadrato rad, and they said they would.

I need to investigate the Abacus ones too. What website have you found the best prices for these?

We have this cabinet from Ikea

at £25 after thinking the DIY sheds quality was rubbish and baulking at their prices and I cannot fault it.

Well made, loads of storage and big mirrors.

Incedentally we don't have it over the sink and it is not recommended to have a cabinet over the sink - just a mirror - in case you drop a glass container into the sink = broken glass.

The picture really doesn't do it justice - it holds so much stuff!!
  • I'm hoping to get a tall free-standing cabinet with a mirror. My sink is under a window, so I'm going to have to settle for a mirror on the sill. I don't know if £100 will cover it, but surely it will go some way towards it :) I haven't yet found what I'm looking for, but I have seen them in the past.

Anyhow, I think the cupboard will have to wait a while anyway...budget is out of control now. I have a little one I can continue to use in the mean time.

As for progress with my bathroom.. it's continuing slowly but mainly behind the scenes in the loft where noone can see so a little demoralising. Spent a fair few hours this weekend as a contortionist in the loft clipping my radiator pipe runs (it's very time consuming drilling pilot holes and screwing in clips) and laying out the rerouted pipework to the toilet ready for connecting up (which also required screwing down wooden supports spanning the ceiling joists). Access problems are really slowing me down at the moment as most of my new pipework is in lower part of roof beyond/beneath the raised water tanks that have to be crawled past.. plus i have all the existing pipework and the eaves both sides of the lower roof to contend with too. Purchased an LED headlamp from ebay as i'm fed up of trying to light the area i'm working on with inspection lamp... without setting fire to the loft insulation! Probably should get a hard hat too as i've whacked my head a few times on the purlins in lower roof - as well as having bruised shins and aching joints. No pain no gain i guess! Despite the aches and pains i'm enjoying it though..if i didn't i wouldn't be doing it!

Oh my days that paragraph alone is enough to warrant the cash were shelling out for our fitter! In all seriousness, it would be great if Mr Phirefly or myself were so inclined, but as you say at least you're enjoying it!

We've decided to get a wall-to-wall custom mirror above the tiling on the one wall that there are no plumbing items, I was quite surprised to find we could get a 1660x1135 custom cut, polished edge 6mm mirror for £80 inc vat from a local glazier, it will make the world of difference to our bijoux (small) bathroom....

budget is out of control now

Heheh know the feeling - I just splashed out £60 on this - couldn't resist..

Funny that - I was thinking about shower trays and how a more flush-to-the-floor solution looks so much better, good luck with that!
