You must be getting excited. I've officially Had Enough now. Its at that break through the pain barrier stage. I can't even be bothered to post a progress photo such is my apathy. Obviously it doesn't help that I'm working from home and my studio is next to the bathroom and everything is covered in dust. I'm contracting in-house tomorrow, I was dreading it, but I'm actually looking forward to getting out of here!

Sorry to hear that. I think there is a breaking point for everyone. I nearly lost it with OH on Monday because I asked him to stop at a certain time so he could return the house back to livable. And when I got home it was a tip! I don't mind living in a building site, as long as it's a clean and tidy building site :)
  • Hello people - I am getting my small bathroom done just getting prices from plumber, tiler, supplier (will update you when I have final price) but wondered what sort of flooring you are all going for? also has anyone opted for a towel rail - would you recommend them (plasterboard wall/weight issues?). thanks.

A few months ago my son made a few minor changes in his shower room. One of them was changing from a radiator to a towel rail. He is now going to buy another radiator to replace the towel rail. He finds the towel rail nowhere near gives out as much heat as the radiator and now the colder weather is here it is so noticeable, the room is always cold. They are a family with three children and they all feel the same.

OH and I are renovating a house and have recently been "shopping" for bathroom bits with the builder. His advice was if you want up to the minute style and looks go for chrome and a towel rail but if you want practicality and warmth go for a radiator and stick to white. For some reason chrome doesn't give out as much heat as white  (I did actually see the most gorgeous chrome radiator which I fell in love with but at over £200 I'm definitely sticking to white!)

Perhaps someone will come along and contradict me, I'm not talking from personal experience just what I've been told but I'm definitely having a radiator in my new bathroom :D
  • Showrooms have all told me that white towel rails give off more heat than chrome.

Son's was a white towel rail, so although it probably did give off more heat than a chrome towel rail it was still not as much as a radiator.

There's some people on here who have bought towel rails, if they've installed them perhaps they'll come along and let you know how they're finding them.
  • I would ask a plumber about the weight issue of it being on a plasterboard wall. Our will be on a main wall between ours and our neighbours house.

You want to calculate the BTUs for your room. What I found when looking is the cheaper towel rails have lower BTUs than the same size more expensive ranges. So I guess you get what you pay for there.

My parents have a chrome towel rail (1400mm tall) but I'm not sure of the BTUs. Their bathroom is always warm. But it's quite a big bathroom.

Don't despair phirefly...but do post us some pics of progress!! Or are you saving them up so we see the final product?

    Andy

Thanks for the links - always interesting to see what others opt for.

Last few days, theres not been much visible progress as its all been about chasing the plumbing into the walls for the towel rad and basin etc, and all the electrics. Other than that, the floors down and the wall tilings being finished as we speak... The fitters weren't in on Tuesday as pre-arranged so I spent the day prepping the walls and painting the areas where theres to be no tiles. Its due to be completed by tonight, so standby for some photos....

  • That's great news, Andy. Looking forward to seeing some good progress from you :)

I can't wait for Monday and the supposed 2 weeks of fitting to be over with. I'm dreading being at home while the plumber/tiler do their stuff. I'm dreading all the potential things that can go wrong. Just want it to be finished. :(

Phirefly, where are you? I hope everything is OK? Look forward to more photos.

I was wondering where the pics were, went delving through pages of this board this morning looking for the non-existant update!

I'm really glad you posted the before pics though; the transformation is pretty shocking!

It looks fabulous - a 100% success, Miss P. I love everything in it, well done!

What was the final budget? Do we get a breakdown like we did of the bedroom ;)
