I keep reading posts about people not getting through and don't understand it, we've been ringing several times a week for the last 7 weeks and always got through. We've had the extremely annoying message that cuts you off but tried another number that got us through instead. Are you trying alternative numbers? Are you holding the line or assuming you're going to get cut off and not letting it get that far iykwim?
One day we rang (and spoke to) them about 8 times as we needed a crisis loan and they kept sending us back and to to tax credits for an emergency payment but they wouldn't give us one.0 -

I had my school meals sorted through the local Direct Link, i think we may only have these in Halton though. It's basically an office that sorts out housing benefit, council tax, etc. We only needed to tell them whether we received housing benefit to get it and they never asked for any proof. Might be worth trying your local council instead?0 -
I have been ringing the 0845 number it tells you to ring on the website but when I get home I'll gladly try any alternative numbers forum members pass on to me, thank you.0

Yes, I've been holding on until it cuts me off! A couple of times I've got as far as selecting the different options and being told I will be put through but then I've had the we are very busy, please try later message.0 -
The other numbers mentioned on here are generally for overseas claimants only. I know. I rang it last week. It got answered straight away but I then got a severe ticking off for ringing it. The lady did take my details though, albeit very resentfully. Wasn't a happy experience..0
