  • I was rining child benefit as well in week, got through eventually only to be told to fill in changes online.
Why cant tax credits let you do the same. I know for some things are complicated but if changes are straightforward surely filling online forms would relieve the pressure on the phone lines.

  • thanks soooooooo much for this number, i got through straight away after being cut off by the silly lady on the EXPENSIVE 0845 number!!!
  • i have received my letter from them this morning, all been sorted and calculated, and my payment went in on the 8th
2013 wins..... Disney on ice VIP tickets...amazon Kindle
  • Felt compelled to register and post this. I spent several days trying to get through on the 0845 number to be told time and time again that they are too busy... goodbye. I used the 01355 number at the start of this thread and got through to someone in less than 30 seconds!!
No press this number, press that number, no are you calling from overseas nothing. The guy who answered my call just dealt with my query so if your having trouble with the usual numbers this ones got to be worth a couple of goes.
  • Been trying to get through to the tax credits office since the end of August to report a change. Been constantly listening to the message and getting chargeed no doubt (Virgin customer) so thought I'll try MSE for advice and glad I did - tried the 3600 number, had a short wait but got through and got dealt with easily. I wanted to tell them of a reduction in child care costs and didn't want to have to wait too long to do it in case they then reduced my payments too much to make up for it!

Thanks you MSE users, once again you have come to my rescue.

  • I finally got through today on 01355 359007 after weeks of trying the "helpline" & reported my changes to a very helpful lady who didn't tell me off for using that number.

I asked her if there was somebody that I could complain to as I've spent £££ on trying to get through & she gave me this address (not a phone line :j)

    Complaints Manager
    Contact Centres Head Office
    Trinity Bridge House
    5th Floor West Wing
    2 Dearmans Place
    Salford
    M3 5DU

I don't usually complain but it has become sooo frustrating during the last 6 months that I will. I've tried calling at all different times of day & have sometimes tried 60+ times before getting through. Although if they are going to be cutting jobs I guess it will only get worse...
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • Hutch610 - there was an online facility in the past but it was targeted by fraudsters and withdrawn, the potential for inaccuracy was simply far to great

  • Today, 13th Sept 2010, I have managed to get them via 01355 359007 after days of being duped into thinking I was going to be able to speak to someone and then suddenly being told they were busy and 'Goodbye'
I was through within 30 seconds and had my changes made by a really friendly and helpful guy.
This number is now being added to my contacts list for future use!
Thanks for posting it to this site.
  • I have been calling them all day from work, and I cannot seem to get through. There's no way of emailing them to request a form or even snail mailing them. It's obviously this way to deter people from claiming (although those who really want it will chase it down).

What's the best time to contact them?
