Ive had three different letters now for this tax year, all with different award amounts, even though I told them what my husbands wages would be for 10/11 in may!
Each form has the correct ammount for his wages, but each one takes off a different amount in the 'deduction due to income' bit, so each award is a different amount.
I cant fatham it out, I really cant. I too am unable to get through to try and explain this and try and sort it out. For some reason they also decided to pay us twice in May!
Our sitiation is quite straightforward, I dont know how they must mess up the complicated ones!
My Husband has a maths degree, and he cant work it out!
Ive tried the onlune calculator, but that only tells you what we would get from today up till april next year, so dont know how to check our award calculation for the whole year.0 -

I phoned on Sunday on the 0845 300 3900 and got straight through. Maybe people don't realise they work on Sundays?0

Morning all, after weeks of trying to get through to CTC on the normal number I phoned 0845 300 3600 this morning, got through straight away, but got asked where I was calling from and was told this number is only for overseas, but she said she'd sort it out for me. In future I think i'll write if it's just an easy change. I've never known it be so hard to get through. I wonder if they have got rid of a load of staff.0

Hi, I would just like to say that after many days of trying and failing to get through on the 08453003900 number I have just got through straight away on the 08453003600 number and the lady there was lovely and never mentioned anything about how I shouldn't be calling on that number.

Had to report another change yesterday, again kept getting the too busy to take your call message. Called the 3600 number and got through to someone, they were initially trying to get out of taking the call but when I explained I'd incurred over £25 worth of call charges over the last few months reporting various changes and wanted to speak to a manager if they wouldn't deal with me (or put me in a que to the helpline!) they conceeded.
When I'd updated my details I did actually ask to speak to a manager to log a complaint about the call charges (I'm with virgin media and on my bill it shows that it costs 18p on the occasions where I've got the sorry we are busy message, and 27p when I got as far as the options but got cut off. Over a 2 day period I ran up over £15 worth of calls not getting through. The manager could not really answer the question as to why the phones don't just come up as engaged rather than charging you each time, or what happens to the money which is being made from the calls. They have said they will respond to my complaint within 3 days (how likely will that be!!!). My MP has also failed to respond to my complaint about calls charges and being unable to get through.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has complained about these issues to either tax credits or their MP - would be usful to know what responce others have had.0 -
I have been trying to get through to tax credits for over a month now. I also wrote to them on 11th Aug and still no reply. I am also having the same problem with the child benefit helpline. I have filled there online form in three times in the last month and still have not heard anything. I am thinking of sending them both recorded letters now!!0

After trying that 0845 number for two days on and off and getting nowhere I rang 01355 359007. The call was answered without going through the menu options by a nice friendly operator. I simply wanted to remove my 18 year old son from the claim to avoid over payments, so it was to their advantage anyway. One minute later it was done. If you get cut off on the 01355 number above try again and start with a cheery "Good morning", worked for me. Thanks Moneysaving Expert again. Make a note of the number for future calls now......0

I'm so glad I've found this thread as I have been trying to get through to tax credits for weeks now and dread to think how much it has cost me in call charges. Thanks for the heads up on the other number.0
