Hi we are trying to apply for tax credits but the helpline is always busy and after spending 6 minutes to an 0845 number it just hangs up. Got up this morning (sunday) but still the same message! all we want is the application pack why cant we do this online? or is there an alternative number because the time we're spending on the phone is getting stupid

    0845 300 3600 Apparently works for others.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • Just called the alternative number 01355 359007 and got through after only being on hold for about 3 minutes. Hooray!!!!! They also dealt with my change of circumstances straight away,

They did ask some bizarre security questions though. Apparently for future security checks. Does this sound right?

Yes they have a new security system in place now.

  • Phew thank goodness for that. I started to worry for a minute.

    Thank you very much.
  • Yay!!!
The 0845 300 3600 number worked within a couple of minutes.

This site has saved me from a huge phone bill.

    Thank you

Not being able to get through is really affecting us. They got my wages wrong by nearly £3000 which makes a huge difference to our other benefits. The housing benefit, council tax benefit and free school meals are all calculated by the wrong amount. We are struggling financialy as it is and I've been trying to get through for over three weeks. In the first week I called over 30 times only to be cut off. It didn't matter what time of day I called. I tried calling at 8.00am, then five minutes later and so on for around an hour because things are that desperate. Every time I went through the button pressing only to be told they were busy and was cut off. It was 8am how busy could they be?! I sent a letter about two weeks ago and nothing has happened yet. It's an absolute displace and is putting us in major financial difficulty. Fortunately we don't pay for the calls but if we did that would be even worse.
Surely there is somewhere to complain although I'd probably spend 10mins on the phone pressing various buttons only to be cut off!!!

Don't call on the 02 number from the saynoto0870 site it will cut you off if all lines are busy. You must call the 0845 number. Yes I know it costs pennies per minute so you'll have to find a landline somewhere and use that. Try it one day call the 02 number get cut off then call back on the 0845 number you'll be put in a queue.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

The time should read 8:52 am...Just got through on 0845 300 3600 NOT 0845 300 3900 - I'm sooo grateful I found this site, I've been trying to get in touch with them to set up a new claim for child tax credit for weeks...I was put through to a person in seconds and it took 6 minutes to complete the call. Its just a shame that we have to resort to such lengths to get what we are entitled to!!

Bit of a warning, I phoned the 0845 600 3600 number and got through within a minute, but they guy told me that if I am in the UK I should not be calling this number, and although he would help me this time if I call again on it they could refuse to help me.

Not very fair that a UK number takes ages or cuts off but a number to use to phone from abroad is instant !. He also aksed how I got the number, I just said someone told me !.
