  • Just spent whole £1 at lunch at a local veggie shop - this is still from the cash I withdrew last week. For this I got 8 (!!!) mediterranean red peppers. He sells things by the bowl and often has fab bargains... So those will be used in tonight's salad, another in weekend meals and the rest will be roasted for some lovely pasta sauces and adding to dishes... I gave one of these peppers to a work colleague as I got so many!

This sounds like a good buy, have been wondering about buying one myself, did fancy a Remoska but can't afford. Years ago we had a crock slow cooker but never did any good with it, gave up and OH sold it at a car boot. Now i'm into labour / electric saving devices. I know you can do stews in them but can you do much else?, don't want to get one that ends up sitting in a cupboard again.

hi there, not sure if this link will work but this is the slow cooker that i bought yesterday.
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4225173/Trail/searchtext%3ESLOW+COOKERS.htm

Still advertised online at £13.30 it's a 3.5 litre one, which should be enough so that i can make a batch of something and freeze the extra portions.

With regard to things you can make in the cooker there is a collection on here that you can look at.
Here is one which is a question an answer type thread..

NSD for me again today, but will need to get something in for Saturday supper as we have friends coming round. Need to do something with fish as they don't eat meat.....

Rachelmk - Pears will stew beautifully. Just add a small amount of liquid as they give up a bit of water while they stew. You can add plain water, but for something more adventurous try white wine, a splosh of port, madeira, or cassis, etc (or if you're feeling really adventurous all of the above!!!!!!!! although perhaps not!!!!!!!!!) and add some mixed spice. You can add them with other fruit for a mixed fruit compote or in pies or crumbles. On a savoury note, you can also use them with walnuts and goats' cheese to make a salad.

    Hi all.

Hugs to anyone who needs them. :grouphug:

I've not been on here a while due to not having time! I'm busier in the school holidays than the term time even though I teach three days a week!!!

Anyway, going on holiday on Saturday which should be good but all depends on my granddad whose been rushed to hospital - we don't know what's wrong at the moment but he's quite ill anyway. Not that that makes it any easier to be honest. My poor grandma is rushing around to and from hospital and I feel really guilty as I live a distance away and cannot get down to help her (also having a little one whose not allowed into the hospital is a problem as I've got no-one to leave her with).

Also finally had it officially diagnosed that my little one is lactose intolerant - something I had figured out myself a while ago. Never mind at least it's on her official records now!

Sorry, to ramble on about non GC things.

On a more positive note my mother-in-law actually likes my banana bread soo much she wants to sell some of it at her church fete!!!

Got loads in the freezer and emptying the fridge for when (if) we go away.

Having a NSD today....just not buying food as freezer and fridge are full....has taken me ages to just not panic, might be some funny dinners but have to do a clear out to defrost everything and refill again for winter.

I now reckon that I have €7.40 left for each day of the month, which I am going to make do, no matter what happens

I'll make sure I wear a red carnation:rotfl: . Just had another member PM me for directions, so quite a gaggle of us could be having an unofficial get together:D . He's local to me once a week when I am that side of town for other reasons and take my shopping trolley and fill up. A few weeks ago he gave me 5lbs of grapes and 5lb tomatoes for free after I spent about £14!!

NSD for me today :Tand I've got some whoopsied sausages out of the freezer for dinner. DH and I were the only ones who ate dinner last night after I'd prepared for five  but I froze the rest so I now have a freezer meal. DH is currently snacking on something I picked up on Monday when I was in Mr M so I'm glad about that.

Kaatlady, thinking of you and Archie still (((hugs)))
