Absolutely! I "worked" in a power station for 14 years (1970's - 80's) All the actual work was contracted out to friends of the bosses (kickbacks?) It was simply a place to hide the unemployed. Friends gas industry told similar stories.
    That may well be true.
Surely that is down to corruption?
In theory if the publicly owned companies were run correctly all of us would be better off.
What we have now is every Tom !!!!!! and Harry fleecing us all.

Ebico showed up for me on energyhelpline, maybe if it didnt show up its because it wouldnt save you money?

Personally I dont quite understand the way people are so pro-ebico on here, yes they are good but if they arent the cheapest supplier for you (and they probably wouldnt be if you were a medium to high user with direct debit and online billing) then why go to them? I just see them as "just another supplier" if they were cheapest for me then I would go but they're not.

It seems like as soon as someone says they want to switch a lot of people suggest ebico, I just cant see why
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Probably Chris a reaction against the overcomplicated billing system of other providers, and as MSE'ers get lower consumption this will throw up Ebico into the frame.

I agree, on here most people are just looking out for themsleves and trying to penny pinch.
That is why the world is in such a mess, because we are all self self self.
Ebico are NON profit making, they let the less well off pay the same as everyone.
Life isn't all about getting the cheapest option. If we ALL supported such companies then the big boys would soon have to stop paying themsleves such huge bonuses.

Ebico are indeed NON -profit making; and their tariff is uncomplicated.

However their prices are certainly no cheaper on average than the 'big 6'.

The are cheaper for low users/pre -pay, more expensive for others.

So Ebico not making a profit, yet being no cheaper than the big 6, illustrates that the large profits made by these companies is a relatively small factor in the price we pay for energy.

It is convenient to have the Utility companies as a 'whipping boy' to blame, but the fact is that our prices are largely determined by world energy prices.

But don't you think they deserve the Whipping Boy status when they make a billion pounds in 6 months and still put gas up by 35%???

Very informative thread about Ebico. I am still baffled as to why an earlier post stated that it was only cheaper for lower users?

I am a BG :( customer on their variable tariff and their prices have increased from:

first 676 Kwh 6.15p to 7.259p (ex vat)
thereafter 2.58p to 3.688p (ex vat)

Ebico currently charge a flat rate of 2.724p (ex vat)

Obviously, I am looking for a cheaper alternative but have I missed something vital about Ebico's pricing structure in the comments that were made earlier in this thread. I also pay by quarterly cheque.

    Cheers

A higher user, FullStop, can take advantage of the lower tier rates whereas I would hardly be out of top whack rate each quarter.
    Ebico is no tiers.
And as for non profit making, this could be made up for when eventually sold to a competitor.

Yep. Unfortunately that'll never happen due to human nature to grab the biggest slice of the pie.

I agree. I have just switched from Ebico to Scottish Power fixed. I was with Ebico for 3 years. Ebico used to put their prices up (or down) once a year around about September. Now they are "benchmarked" to Southern. The only strange thing about it when it happened, was that they "benchmarked" a few days/weeks(?) after Southern lowered their prices. Shame they did not benchmark before, but that was probably down to Southern thinking Ebico customers had too good a deal.

I started paying by direct debit with Ebico (to help out those on prepayment meters), but after 2 years the "quirk" in the billing was still not sorted, so I just switched over to quarterly billing by cheque. I still think this "quirk" is ongoing.

Everyone (or nearly everyone) is self self self these days. But with the way the prices are shooting up, most people cannot afford to think any other way. And as they say, charity does start at home.:D
