Okay, I'm with Ebico, Gas 2.86p flat rate, leccy 11.04 per unit flat rate.
because they use Southern electric as their supplier in my area, I also get access to a website allowing me to buy vouchers at a discount (I buy my weekly shop at waitrose with vouchers at 8.5% discount and petrol from sainsbury's at 6% discount). If I move I will lose the £100 per month saving I make on the vouchers and possibly pay far more for my energy for some time.
Is it still worth capping?0 -
doog, would you like to share details of the discount website? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I know they do it with Scottish Hydro Electric - www.hydro.co.uk
Midflight I completely agree with you, they should never have privatised something that is a basic necessity to the British public. Everyone NEEDS gas and electricity and the fat cats should not be making profit from this; however, I have heard the other side of the argument, that without privatisation, the industry would not be able to heavily invest on the 'green' enery ie windfarms, solar energy etc.
It was nice to see Ebico get a mention off Martin this morning on GMTV.0 -

I'd love to. What do you want to know?
I don't have my card and have been racking my brain trying to remember the web address, but you login with your southern-electric customer details and then just purchase vouchers at a discounted rate.
There is a minimum amount (usually £100 I think). Because I know roughly how much petrol and food I will need for the family in a month, I just buy the vouchers once a month. £100 of John Lewis vouchers (for Waitrose) sets me back £91.50. Delivery is free and usually within a few days.0 -
Midflight.Of course, gas & electric should never have been privatised in the first place
Along with anything else that 'belonged' to the people of this country.
Sheer greed of those that don't think of the consequences is the reason we are in this position.
What a con, 'I know, lets sell the people something that they already own' said Polly Tician.
'Oh thank you so much' said Mr Greedy, gratefully. Are you Ena Sharples?
Sol00I have heard the other side of the argument, that without privatisation, the industry would not be able to heavily invest on the 'green' energy ie windfarms, solar energy etc.
If it belonged to the people, just think how much money would be available then.
The 'green' excuse is yet another way for the powers that be to line their pockets giving out contracts. Wind power has been shown not to work in other countries, it's a con. They could halve our carbon emmissions in a few years if they had the will.
Why are vehicles that exceed our speed limit available? or engines above, say, 1600cc?
Why are politicians allowed two homes to use power in? If I got a job in London do you think they would give me a second home?
Why are we not all using l.e.d. lighting? this would save huge amounts of power.
Why are people allowed to have things like hot tubs and swimming pools heated all year round?
It's all to do with money. We are being conned. Time for a revolution.

Spot on, how ya been keeping luv?

Noooo, please don't fall for that one. They are making HUGE profits and investing in so called 'green' energy and paying shareholders.

I agree, but if it was publicly owned, would we not be paying higher taxes to subsidise it?0 -

If, for arguments sakes, I pay £1,000.00 a year for gas and electric then part of that buys the stuff, part pays the wages, the rest goes on profit and to shareholders. (In simple terms of course).
If it were publicly owned, we would, in effect, be the shareholders and the profit makers and so this should go back into the system to modernise and keep prices down.
The governments waste so much of our money that they get into trouble and their only way out is to 'steal' what is ours to sell off and pay the debts they have created.0 -
