I've just had a look at the ebico site and I have to say I am quite impressed.
Scottish Power
200 units @ 11.799p over 54 days plus standing charge @ 15.10/day
= £33.73 (inc VAT)
Ebico
200 units @ 11.99p
=£23.98
My gas is switched off so I have a standing charge, 11.79p for 54 days
= £6.31
Total = £40.04 (+/- some rounding)
I don't have a higher usage rate.
I suspect winter might be a little different and I will need to look at that but money saving aside I think Ebico is the way to go. Great Ethos!!
Some questions:
As I am on a low income any one got any feed back on preferred payment methods? Looks like weekly card payment.
Also my meter(s) are due for servicing so how does that effect things?0 -
Here, all your lights were on when I got here!!:beer:0

Mine wasn't. If it were, I would have replied.
I needed to change from econ7 to normal, no charge for the change.
Low income, as usual, those that can afford it can pay more and cap, or, don't cap cause it doesn't bother them anyway. So, those of us who have to watch the pennies lose either way.
Hope you know what I mean? If not, come back, we can start the revolution (down the pub). Cheers.
BTW, with Ebico, it is the same charge no matter what the payment method. If a pre payment meter is your easiest way, go for that, you will pay the same as me!! That is the Ebico way.0 -
Thanks Lewie
I saw that on the charges that should be made compulsory I think as well as removing standing charge: thats what increases my cost with SP despite being informed that I am on a social tariff.
I have standard meters at the moment, and the meters are due for checking / renewal so that might be an option. Though I'm sure they're obliged to change like for like.
The card option looks the preferred method at the moment though.
I'll be ringing Ebico on Monday.0 -
I switched to Ebico (from the nightmare that is EON) in April and have just had the first bill - pleasantly surprised by both. Paying £35 per month for each and both are in credit.
I noticed some posts on here saying there's no discount for different payment methods - both my bills have a discount for paying by monthly direct debit (approx £5 on each)0 -

Don't want to dissolution you but the direct debit discount is offset by a slightly higher unit rate, everyone pays the same with Ebico.
There is an explanation of how this works here:

Ken : This only applies to the Argos tariff, snoop doog seemed to be implying that there were discounts for all. Maybe he will get back to us.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Ah - apologies. Thanks for the link - read it many moons ago and had forgotten about that quirk! Even without the discount the bills are coming out cheaper than they were before (and without the EON hassle!!)0 -
Just done the switch the other way round Ebico to Eon, for the capped rate.
Must say Ebico/southern CS was excellent.Pawpurrs x0 -
I agree, but if it was publicly owned, would we not be paying higher taxes to subsidise it?
Absolutely! I "worked" in a power station for 14 years (1970's - 80's) All the actual work was contracted out to friends of the bosses (kickbacks?) It was simply a place to hide the unemployed. Friends gas industry told similar stories. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
