Oooh good luck Buffy have a fab time :j and let us know how you get on.

Driving really does give you freedom, I failed my test four times in the same parking space :rotfl: :rotfl: ... but got there eventually and I've seen more of friends and extended family in the 6 months I've had the car than for years before!

PS. you might like to think about getting a satnav when you pass - I absolutely love mine as it meant I could just concentrate on the driving part to begin with, and am learning to navigate now I'm a more confident driver. (Plus I've set it up with the guy with the Irish accent ;):D )

Good luck Buffy! It will make a huge difference for you if you are able to drive, a big increase in confidence and it will just make life easier, eg gives you a lot more options re jobs as you will be able to travel a lot further. You will wonder how you managed without it! Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

here are mine (sticking with the one single, one DFW model):
    1. Organise getting double sofabed/ futon for spare room. (Three of my closest friends here are currently away long term - bad timing! If I can invite my long-distance friends in couples to both stay they are more likely to come than if only one came or they had to get back home the same day, so I will get out more here and hopefully meet more people).
    2. I will actually USE that Pilates DVD which has been on my bookcase for months :o .
    3. I will find out what happens with the gap insurance if I move my car loan to a cheaper one (actually moving it can be another week's challenge).

Good luck with these, please let us know how you get on! I have loads of exercise dvds on my shelf, the problem is that just by buying them I feel virtuous and really pleased with myself, I never quite get round to understanding that if they are going to make any difference I have to actually use them! Always feel having them neatly stacked on my shelf will be enough!

Hi, i like the sound of that, i am aiming to get one of my credit cards to 0 by xmas, so that would help in bringing it down.

Sarah - also being having some down days recently - mine has been wanting to get my own place... it feels so far away (I flat share with 2 others). Just feel stuck in a rut :(

I did get motivated today and add some books for sale online, might try ebaying tonight.

As for challenges - i havent been very good at them.....

i was going to close my M&S cc down but have been thinking that perhaps i should reduce the limit to £500 and use that to do my main shopping during the month and pay it off at payday and collect the points........ I am using a CC here and there which offers nothing back.....

I know what you mean about if feeling so far away, I hate renting, feels like I will never get my own house, what I am going to do once the debts are tackled is set myself some targets ie x amount for fees, another account for x amount for deposit etc, and just concentrate on one bit at a time, so it doesn't seem overwhelming, which is what makes me think, "oh I'll never do it, may as well give up," doing it in small steps is easier for me. I will get my own house! I will do it!

As for the credit card, I used to do that, but I would end up only paying the minimum amount back at the end of the month as I loathe paying back debts, I got myself into a lot of trouble doing that, so I would advice you to only do it if you know you can be very strict with yourself, all my debts are loans now, so I have to make a payment each month, and I can't spend anymore on them. If you know you can do it, it is a good idea, you can treat yourself with the points!

Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on

  • Hi all,

Said hello on here near the beginning but been busy reading other threads so hope it is not to late to join in. Much better being on here than reading my hate mail that seems to becoming daily :-(

I have never gone out on my own, never had the courage, think I would look stupid? Most of my friends live away and are not single.

Would be nice to meet a man who would do commitment and say ok so your in shed loads of debt but hey not to worry I will open your letters and help you - not financially just moral support and not judge but like that would ever happen, oh and not to forget, to accept my two kids.
