Well so much for my date tonight! Guy has turned out to be a little bit odd. He sent me a message the other day saying that he didn't think I wanted to meet (yeah, 'cause I often arrange things I don't fancy doing) because he'd tried calling me through the day and I hadn't answered. I checked my phone and he definitely hadn't called my number. Anyway, he then sent me a message yesterday asking how I was and if we were still on for tonight. I replied that yes we were and we should go to the pub. Have heard nothing since. Odd!!!!!

Oh well, been chatting to another rather lovely guy from that website anyway and he's calling me later today.:D

It's incredible the confidenc boost this kind of thing gives you. A month ago I was totally heartbroken and miserable. Now I feel much better about so many things and I feel attractive again! I'm not looking for anything serious (way too soon) but at least I'm having a laugh and meeting new people.

So thank you to everyone on this thread who has given me the inspiration to kick my own but and get back out there.:T :T :T

Am really pleased that everyone is embracing the 'go for a drink alone' thing- and Sarahb, of course Starbucks counts for starters...stretch the comfort zone slowly!

I do bars, cinema, theatre, concerts, restaurants, daytrips and even European weekends away on my own....twice in the last year! And a long haul trip too for 7 days...

Not that I am some crazed loner in a big black trench coat, I just figure that if none of my mates want to come to something I really want to go to, if I don't go on my own I miss out! (And even if there was a partner in the picture, I am not sure I would inflict Glen Campbell concerts on him!)

:T My views entirely (at least, until my debts got too large  )

Is it only 30 somethings in this place or is there room for a mid-40 something?:D

After years of being single (whilst raising one of my nieces for 5 years), I'm slowly, very slowly rejoining the world. I have done the eating out and going to the cinema on my own, but not at the moment as I'm debt-reducing - if you ignore the 2 holidays I'm having this year  . It was a little scary to start with but once you realise no-one is paying you any mind, very enjoyable. On Monday I went to Paris for the day on my own and it was very lovely. Flaming hot too but I loved it. None of my friends were able to go but that was ok.

I suppose the next step should be dating, but it's been so long that I'm not sure I really want to try (chicken!), so I guess I'll concentrate on debt reduction and family/friends/running in the meantime.

Get out there Sarahb, it will be good for you and you'll only hibernate during the winter (if you're anything like me) so get it all done now

Plenty of room for a 40-something. Age is irrelevant anyway. Welcome to the thread.

And well done you for all the things you are happy to do on your own.

Gosh that does sound like an odd one, come across a couple of them myself as well! So thanks for sharing as it makes me realise that its not just me :p Glad you are enjoying yourself and it is a total confidence boost, I think my little meter has risen a chunk in the last week from being on here and chatting on the dating sites :j Good luck with this next guy! :T:T

I think one of my confusing ones would have to be a guy from work I hooked up with after we had both left the department. We got on great, from date 2 he was all 'we are in a relationship etc etc'(which I did think was a bit sudden), then I didnt hear from him for about 10 days, so I messaged him to say 'just to clarify, are we dating?' (said that nothing more) to a reply of 'OMG you are so stressing me out you are so demanding, I will see you when I want to see you etc etc!!' then he took me off his facebook .. added me back on 3 days later , then took me off and added me on again .. and I still get periodical flirts from him and then put downs when I dont play along! Starting to think he has some kind of flirting bipolar syndrome :rotfl:

Must be some other meeting odd people stories out there :)

I think you do get used to it and end up doing it a lot of the time without even thinking about it. I worry that I will become too set in my ways! I do want to be with someone but have accidentally become very independent along the way, I worry that I will keep pushing someone away because I can't quite accept that they will want to be with me or that I am so independent that it looks like I don't need someone, when I do. Or rather I want, not exactly need, someone. I know I can manage alone, but it's boring really sometimes.

I completely agree. I don't need someone, it would just be nice to have someone in my life. It's because of that I'm happy to wait for the right person rather than settle with the first person who shows me interest.

Speaking of which, I have another date next Wednesday night. Someone different from the last guy (nice but boring). I don't know much about this one at all but meeting in a busy pub and have my friends on standby for an emergency 'get me out of here!!' text.

Really not sure about this going for a drink on your own thing. Maybe at some point...
