Same here - though second oldest - sis is married with 2 kids and i know my mum is itching for me to settle.... i keep telling her all these things i want to do and its the same answer...she always says why dont you get married and do all those things afterwards - lol - as if its thats easy ;)

Exactly! I don't think parents know how how difficult it is, yesterday my mum said, "there's just you left now!" and I could hardly speak. Also my parents think the answer to buying a house is to marry someone who already has a house. As if there is a queue of home owning suitors outside my door! Must have missed them!

  • When i was in my early 20's I always just assumed that I would be married with kids by the time i hit my 30's. Funny - you don't think of the alternatives.

I think I should be first for Marleyboy seeing as it is my birthday in 40 minutes lol :D
  • I did too PrincessPeach. My friend who is the same age as me (35) and single too just has an innate belief that ultimately, at some point, she will meet the right person and all will be well. I would love to have that self belief; I spend too much time fretting about it when if I had that belief I think I would just get on with living my life. Which would probably lead to me meeting someone and even if I didn't I would have led a great life.

Sorry, just read that back I know what I meant to say but not sure that it came across. Blame the heat and the fact that I'm half watching Criminal Minds!

I am totally with you! (btw love Criminal Minds!) I still have the thing in th eback of my mind that you will meet Mr Right when you are not really looking .. bit easier to do that though when you are younger and in pups & clubs all the time! Not so easier sat at home :rotfl:

Thanks PrincessPeach - this is my first birthday since I was 17 as a single person and although in the main I am perfectly happy without anyone, it does seem a little strange that I will be on my own tomorrow (in a relationship sense - I will be seeing family and friends so not properly alone).

Still I don't have to share my bottle of wine I have here :D

I am determined to do this by the time I am 40, thought the same about 35 and 30 though! You are right, you never seem to think of the alternatives when you are younger. I don't like this alternative much! I know I am lucky in many ways and have a lot to be grateful for, it just feels like there is a piece of the jigsaw missing. I am sure if I stay single forever I will manage just fine, but it's not exactly something I am looking forward to.
