Hi everyone
Oooh happy holiday maggs & big :grouphug: for the 'oscopy thing. Well done on shopping, being paid & closing of accounts too.
Ossiereo - just had another thought re your stuff ... how about the Salvation Army ? There's aproject round here where they collect inwanted furniture etc to give to various people starting up new homes eg refugees, parolees etc. I think it's a great idea & they collect.
Bathgatebuyer - competitiors from outer mongolia  think I'm off to the nearest nunnery
TDQ - I soooo want you & was very miffed that you missed me out when you were bedhopping around the UK :rotfl: Great news on the jobby front & do be careful with motorbikes please ( we older women are very anxious  )
You're right about being picky & yes it is the connection that counts, mentally & physically. I have to have someone I can laugh with rather than at  . People are driven by either a set of requirements or like me ... driven by their pants
bye for now

In terms of who they went to, the first time I gave them to someone who said they could pick up a bag of videos and be there in half an hour. I thought, "How nice" as everything was really quick, I got rid of some stuff I didn't need and my hall cupboard was cleared very quickly.
However, every time I put something up, the same person would be in touch, "I can be there in half an hour" with some standard line about, "I'm a really big fan of..............." (insert to suit item being freecycled!). On the Sunday, I then saw all my stuff being sold at a car boot by the person who seemed so honest and nice  I don't think I would have minded had they been honest and said, "I'm going to sell it if you don't mind", but when you choose them over (in one case) 40 or 50 other people who appear to really genuinely like and want an item, it does make you a bit annoyed.
I kind of fell away from freecyce after that as I felt a bit 'dirty' (probably the wrong choice of word!) and used and a bit like they were taking me for a mug. Ooooh, 'freecycle made me feel cheap' would make a great tabloid headline, wouldn't it?!
The converse to that is that anything I've received, I really have been grateful for. My Mum got a new lawnmower for her new house (which had a lawn which she's not had for about 15 years!), and I also received some magazines which were fairly specialist (architecture, not adult!).
It took a bit of trial and error to recognise a genuine from a slightly dishonest request. I don't mean to put you off and maybe you don't mind someone selling your stuff, but I was just suprised that some people aren't as honest as I am (hm, no 'halo' smiley here to insert)
That would really irritate me if I had given something to someone on freecycle and they just sold it. My local freecycle site expresslty forbids that but , of course, it's impossible to police. After all, you only became aware as you happened to be at the same boot sale on the same day as the recipient.
I received a freezer from someone on my local freecycle and I'm very grateful for it. I even offered to do a free window clean for it (that's what I do) but they didn't want it.
I have some bits that I will put on there as I clear my garage out (to return it to the council and save my business £9 a week). There will be other bits that I will sell though.0 -
Hey Paulgonnabedebtfree, how's things 4 stops round the M25 ?
Hiya Lula-Hula.
Thinks are pretty wet here so taking a day out to further organise my flat. So are you around the Dartford/Swanley way or the Chertsey/Staines way?
Your nunnery post made me smile. Years ago, I did very briefly flirt with the idea of a monastery (in order to escape from life). Bits of it sounded fairly attractive until I got to the part about poverty, chastity, and obedience. A certain degree of limited poverty I can live with - so long as it's relative poverty in the Western world. Chastity - no chance. I like sex too much. Obedience - no way. I knew by the timne I was 5 that I would never join the military voluntarily. Always hated being told what to do ands still not overly keen on it at 51 - probably why I enjoy being self-employed so much.
Monastery indeed LOL. Ever wondered if Friar Tuck is actually a spoonerism? (bit rude - sorry) LOL.0 -
Have any of your Freecycled? How on earth do you pick who to give the item to??
Ossireo - I've only freecycled once, which was this weekend just gone, when I moved into my flat the previous tenent's left a single bed (metal base, wodden head & base boards) I freecycled it about 18 months ago - no takers
Was on there on Friday night & noticed there was one on there & the Offeror (is that a word ?) said he had had quite a few replies.
So I put mine on there, had two replies, gave to the first one who could come & get it.
Ordinarily I usually give other stuff to the local Cancer Research shop, my friend gave load of crockery type stuff to her local YMCA last year - something else to consider I suppose.
Eco - I made the Blackberry Breakfast Bars, very moorish

Widen your circle of friends and use facebook to reach out to people you know and strengthen friendships. Look for other like minded single people. This will be your support network. Having a partner isn't a solution - arguing over bills and differences in spending is a huge problem. Plus if it ever comes to breaking up then it means starting over as ending relationships are massively expensive. My previous boyfriend lived with me briefly and spent all his money going out and then would try to 'borrow' so he could get to the end of the month. He never paid his fair share. When he left I was in debt (paying him off - house value had gone up) and minus half the furniture.
I am on my own and everything I own now I earned myself. That is an immense source of pride that it is all mine. Imaging yourself being in this position - picture it - literally by making a picture of images torn out of magines and words. Put this somewhere where you'll see it daily. Put a piggy bank under it. Dump your spare change into and put it into paying off your debts and paying for your dream.
That's right you are buying your dream!! Be very careful with your money and shop smart so you can save money. The point is not deprive yourself completely either. You still need to have a taste of your future life in order to fuel your appetite and keep you motivated. But too much will kill it!
If you imagine a home with a warm decor and candles - use tea lights. If you imagine your future home a modern slick look - declutter and sell off what you don't need.

Hello everyone :hello:
Sorry I haven't been around for a while, but I've been dead busy at work and knackered when I get home (weekends with my brother always take it out of me!) Anyway, I've been catching up with y'all, but not been posting- blame it on my hurty shoulder
Just wanted to say hello to you all and let you know that I'm still rooting for you when things get rough, and cheering you on when things look good. I'm just not able to post as much of an evening as I'd like. The good news is that my shoulder's getting better, so I should be fighting fit soon. Well, I need to be, specially as I've promised my pal I'll do a mini triathlon with her in August
I'll try & check in later - will see how I'm doing after another crazy day here.
Much love
SuSu
Oh, and I don't think I mentioned it before, but I got some new shoes from Clarks yesterday (Sarah's a bad influence!) They are bee-you-tiffle. And reduced from £68 to £20 £27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months
Finally debt free!0
