    With you all the way on it mate. Catch 22 really. My flat is decorated (took me 3 months tho ;)), but it is a 1 bedroom little box, nothig more, a drop from my 3 bedroom house, with kitchen ext, and patio overlooking my lawn. reduced to a balcony overlooking some grotty estate.

    I don't think those things are particularly important. If the place is full of rubbish / dirty clothes / filthy etc, that would bother me a lot. The actual size of the place wouldn't. If someone lives on his own, a 1 bed place is sensible.

    Because in our society consumption is seen as amongst the most amazing things to participate in? Think of the ads - "You're worth it". We've tied our sense of self-worth and success on money and objects. All those marketing messages telling you the secret to happiness is in products don't help.

    I suppose it's because I feel that if I don't have a man to buy me things I can replace that by doing it myself. Not that I am suggesting that I want a man so he can spend lots of money on me, I may meet someone who is in debt as well, I just mean that I suppose it becomes a replacement for attention or affection.
