Same here, really annoys me about myself! Just can't seem to chat normally to someone I like.

Wow thanks, you hit the nail on the head for me hun....I can happily chat to freinds (male and female) but get really shy and clam up, making a complete fool of myself, if I really like them. I think part of it is because ive only ever had a relationship from being schoolkids, which lasted 13 years, and my last one which lasted only 10 years. In those years I never erred, strayed or flirted, I never needed to (1 is more than enough ;)).

For me one day I was content in my 3 bed house, with my GF and 3 stepkids, for 10 years, but it took just the blink of an eye for it to be gone for me, I dont get to kiss My son goodnight, help with his homework, or praise him for his latest model he builds. Its made worse because he is devastated about it.

"I need cheering up, and they look so nice, and they are a bargain!" Soooo difficult to stop thinking like that.

One to think about - why does buying stuff cheer you up in the first place?

  • Hi there,

I too am in a similar situation. I split with my ex about 4 years ago, and she left me with all our joint debts (stupidly they were in my name).

Full story here in a previous post:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=382027

It really hurt me that she could do that after 10 years together. As a result I've got practically no spare cash at all. I've encountered the same problems with not being able to go out much, or even buying nice clothes to make myself look as good as possible. Being single makes it very hard to cope with the bills.

Also, I worry about the fact I have no money and not much in the way of prospects as it stands (low level govt admin job and no qualifications to speak of - but I intend to look into Open University or similar). This'll be hard too, because I could never study full-time, would need a good amount of money coming in regardless.

I sometimes think - what girl would be interested in me? And because I met my ex at school, I've never even been on a proper date! Missed all the "chatting up girls" stage etc. Bit woeful at 30 years of age.
    .
But I have enjoyed living alone in many ways. I've rediscovered my social life (my ex and i were inseparable and i lost touch with many friends as a result), increased my confidence and had a chance to re-evaluate my life etc.

But I would like a woman. However, I reckon it'd be better to take my time and not end up with an evil cow like the last one! Having two salaries coming in would improve things tremendously but again, it would not be worth making myself unhappy.

On the subject of internet dating, a free site i've recently found is OkCupid. Totally free and the way it matches you to others is good...give it a shot.
