Welcome back eco, glad you had a lovely time, anything to report?:D
Welcome to ukbabe, yes, there are lots of us! Please don't worry, as Lula says if you post a new thread with an soa the brilliant people on here will be able to help you. I know it probably doesn't feel like it, but you are so lucky to have had your lightbulb moment at 20, so get it all written down, you will be amazed at the expertise available.
Lula, re the 4k challenge, I may be wrong, but I thought that each person decided what they would count, e.g. I won't be counting rent, bills or petrol. I think that's how it works anyway, if it doesn't I am going to really struggle, I spend a fortune on petrol alone.Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j0 -
Hi sarah,
bit late getting on tonight as been too busy swooning over Brandon :heartpuls - he should be mine- anyway I thought I must have got it all wrong about the £ 4,000 challenge. I thought it only discounted rent/mortgage, council tax & water rates ... even discounting that lot I cant get my outgoings under £ 100 a week. Actually that's a blatant lie - I could give up eating or the car  .
I just dont know how they do it but will be interested to see how you & Buffy get on. If work situation doesnt improve I may well be joining you  . It sounds silly but I often wonder if I'd be better off not working as although I'd have less money, I would have more time to shop around for cheap food & cook from scratch, I spent time over on the OS & although they are amazing in what they achieve I did notice that many either dont go out to work or have children & a partner to share earning / childcaring with.
Ok, having made myself thoroughly fed up now, I'm going to bed
G'nite

I'm back from Wales, it was fantastic, my first holiday I booked and planned, so I've decided to save up and do something similar again next year any suggestions.
Hi Eco, one suggestion.
This year I took part in the Tall Ships Races & the return leg from the Netherlands back to the ships home port. Not exactly the same sort of thing I know but its active & outdoors with plenty of fresh air & even if you're on your own you get to know your shipmates pretty quickly.0 -
Hiya,
I have to confess with the decorating, my brothers a painter and decorator and 1 of the resons I've waited 2 years is cos he helped me decorate my spare room, and I thought it would be cheeky to get him to come back too soon and help with the stairs, anyway he's going to help me and fetch a lot of the materials up on Saturday, so all I've had to do this week is fill and sand, he's going to paint. Lula I just have no enthusiasm for decorating, all I'll be doing Saturday is making cups of tea and sausage sandwiches, and pretending to paint, my brothers taught us the basics and I am quite good tho, his brushes are really good ones and that helps.
Didn't meet any rugged types on holiday, did say hello to a lot tho on Snowdon, but it's a bit of a trek just to bump into men.
SBC I couldn't do the tall ships thing I hate cold water, and the seas bloody freezing, but your right you do have to get to know folk quickly.
Got to go and do some work unfortunatly so I'll be back later,0 -

Who's Brandon? Hope I'm not showing my age with that question!:D
Re the 4k thing, I had another look and I now see that you have to include regular household bills, but I think petrol counts as essential work related expenses, which you don't have to count, so that could make a difference. I won't include any car costs at all as my car is essential for work. My rent includes council tax and water rates already. I want a deposit for a house and I think I would be able to save quite a bit if I could do it for a year, but as you can see from the diet in my sig I am not great at sticking to things.
Also I think you don't have to stick to £4k exactly, people with children are counting their child benefit as extra on top of that, so you might have a little more to play with. So might be worth another look if adding CB and taking off car costs would make it doable.

Hi everyone,
Eco - well done for doing all the sanding down etc. that's the bit I really hatewill quite happily paint an empty room with nicely prepared walls though
SBC - your trip sounds amazing, I'm slightly green with envy, used to do a bit of sailing & nothing compares to being on the ocean yo ho ho
Sarahb - I am quite the dumbest of the dumbhave just done some maths & it turns out that excluding ( that's where I was dumb  ) the rent, council tax & water rates my weekly expenditure - as long as I dont go over £35 for groceries - is £ 93 a week so with child benefit added in I'm actually already doing the £4,000 challenge , well, I've been attempting it for the last 3 weeks anyway, still scared at the thought of signing up to the challenge though, I hate failing at stuff
.
Bowski - hope you're ok, havent heard from you for a while.
Brandon :heartpuls by the way for anyone who doesnt know is the delicious & divine Mr. Brandon Flowers of the Killers & was on Jools Holland s show when I last posted *sighs & dreams of a debt free rock chick lifestyle *
Ok, back on earth I need to deal with paperwork that has grown from a pile to a mound & fast heading toward re classification as a hill
Oooh & by the way I've lost another 2 lbs :j

Hi guys,
Especially you Sarahb123, I realised that it's been three months since I last posted on this thread.
Please indulge me while I catch you up and before I have to leave this thread forever (I hope).
I went to Germany for cousin's wedding, came back, computer died, started college, finished college, DS no2 ill lots, DD ill lots, lost a total of 1st 10lbs (which caused embarrassment at Stanstead when I had to take my belt off and walk through scanner with trousers falling rapidly down my legs!:embarasse), had to buy clothes cos now three sizes smaller, got computer fixed, computer died again, now using laptop!
I met someone at the wedding, he is funny, kind, gentle, sweet, honest, reliable, has lovely blue eyes (never been my thing before), and was over to visit last week and is coming back at Christmas. It's looking worryingly serious, to the extent that three of my kids are now studying German. He is well known to my family and I know that all of the qualities detailed above are actually real and not some random fantasy!:j
I guess I'm no longer single. Still in debt, overweight and depressed about it though. Now saving up for a decent frock for the wedding that he mentioned:eek:LBM:FEB 2008

Hi All,
Finally caught up at work, I've had a week off and it's nearly taken me that amount of time to catch up, oh well.
Rugbymum thats great they say your more likely to meet someone when your not expecting it, or probably hoping to.
Can't believe it's Friday already i finish work soon can't wait, hope you all have a good weekend.0 -
Thanks eco, met him at about 3am at the wedding reception. I had seen him around a couple of times before and during the wedding, but a bottle of gin later (me) and a few beers (him) later, we met properly!LBM:FEB 2008

Aww Rugbymum, that's brilliant news, I'm so happy for you!:smileyhea Like eco says, it always seems to happen when you're not looking for it. He sounds perfect! Am very jealous of the weight loss, that's fab, despite the trousers falling down incident!
