by the way, I went to tesco to buy some batteries & amongst all the other stuff I came out with :o were som brilliant hiball glasses ; really huge with very heavy bases so far less knock-overable ;) .

At what age does one officially become a spinster rather than simply 'single' ?

On the first point, I shall do some research next time I'm shopping.

On the second, I thought it was 30, now I am 36, I shall consider it 40. I can't knit, I don't go to church, I don't have any cats. How am I going to get through it?

You forgot joining a book group or rambling club.

Oh cack, now I have to admit that I had a near disaster at 3.50 this afternoon ; books due back & library closing in 10 mins. Thanks to the obviously single female who arranges a display of 'quick choice' books by the desk & the kindly assistant I managed to grab one :o
  • that's not sounding too bad hula! having spent most of the day with married women it seems single is not so bad after all and the happily ever after part is complete spin...

Hmm. I think you are right. However, is it too much to ask that I get the chance to check? I think I should at least get the opportunity to get married so I can compare opinions from both sides. In the interests of fairness of course. So I can report back. :D

with you on all of those  I think the best plan is to go on an exotic holiday/adventure & find some tribal chief ( polygamy is just a word ;) ) looking for a new 'acquisition' to join his harem. It's either that or anoraks, binoculars & stout boots

  • I am the eldest in my family, all my siblings have children. So I am not just a spinster. Oh no. That would be too easy. I am a maiden aunt. Will ask for stout boots, anoraks and binoculars for my birthday. And a kitten and some wool.

congrats on the weight loss sarah :D  :D

I've decided that xbf's export 47 % gin a bit strong so am watering down with some crisps :o

Re the maiden aunt thing sarah - I have 2 of those. One had a few long term boyfriends but remained childless & single until her 50's when she met lovely man, got married, sold her house & now lives fab life in portugal very happily, she's also very tactful & diplomatic. The other has travelled all over the world, speaks various languages, is involved in loads of actitivities & clubs including ramblers & always says exactly what she thinks & owns many anoraks & boots . Please, please, please let me follow in the footsteps of the first one .

    Oh, how I want crisps!

I want to follow in the footsteps of the first one as well- in my shiny patent M&S heels, which I love and were probably my favourite purchase in the last 2 years. Am not following anyone in stout boots- the shame! The extra cost!

I have/had several maiden aunts, the product of the 2 world wars, and they appeared to have exciting, or at least interesting, lives, am a bit too young to remember the specifics of some, we also have some female relatives who quite clearly married to avoid being alone, and spent their lives with the wrong person. I know it's terrible that I consider having a man/getting married as some sort of holy grail. And I don't really. Just would be happier with someone. I know I won't die/be a failure without that. Would like to try though, don't at this moment want to contemplate a life without children. Or with stout boots.
