I am a student and am obviously not REALLY poor but I am still struggling. I have a store card maxxed and bad credit rating. Previously I have paid about £400 in charges on account that I have now shut down. Can I claim?

Also I have taken out 3 student overdrafts which is really unallowed. If I start digging with the bank will they catch me out? I can't afford to pay them back (obviously) will trying to claim actually get me in to a bigger mess?
Claim all bank charges/credit card charges and catalogue charges. Look for any PPI as well :D

After just spending 20 minutes on the phone to Barclays for my every other day chaser call I was told that my case has been assessed on the 30th and has been accepted for financial hardship and I will be receiving a goodwill gesture....but the stupid anal guy on the other end of the phone wont tell me how much I am getting and when I will get it as he says he isnt authorised to do so.

He said there is a letter waiting to be signed by a manager (do they even sign letter personally at banks) and until the letter is signed he is not allowed to tell me what the outcome is.

So, I asked to speak to a manager, got a manager who told me exactly the same, she said she cant tell me when the letter will be sent out and also what goodwill gesture I am going to get...grrrr, I am so annoyed as I just want to know now!

How long should I give them now do you think???

I guess at least it is success that my financial harship claim has been accepted?

Hi Karen,

I am in EXACTLY the same postion as you - awaiting that letter! I spoke to someone on Friday and was told that my claim had been resolved (did you mean 'resolved' when you said yours had been 'accepted'?) and to expect a letter by Tuesday, or to phone again by then if I had heard nothing by then. Mine is waiting to be signed off, but I also don't know the outcome yet. I think it's only a short wait now, but the girl I spoke to on Friday was quite helpful and said she could have told me the result if the letter had been signed off and posted that day, but was unable to then as it had yet to be signed off.

The last thing you want is for someone on the phone to tell you on the phone that it's been accepted and that you are getting 'this many £'s', only for it to be rejected at the last hurdle (although I think the signing off is just a formality).

It is really frustrating I know, but try to be patient, and hopefully you will hear from them this week. I hope I do! And if you want, just phone them each day or every other day, whatever you feel comfortable with.

By the way, what number are you calling to chase up? Is it 0845 300 5857? That's the one you should use if you are not. Just call it, press option 2, and ask for an update on your hardship claim (sorry if you are already calling that number, but I thought I'd let you know in case you were just ringing the normal Barclays CS number).

Good luck

Dan

Halifax
Ammount claimed £0
Goodwill Gesture £3400.
I telephoned Halifax to complain about charges and the operator told me that she would inform customer relations on my behalf and fill in the required paperwork. I didn't expect to hear from them but a few days later I recieved a letter
informing me that as I was considered a 'hardship case' and that they would refund all bank charges over the last 2 years and suspend any further charges for the next 3 months! I am still owed about another £4000 but it's definately a start.

:T Well done on getting this! We are claiming with Halifax and have had no such luck - we started in Nov 08!

We have had to fill in the budget forms, rang every other day for a month and sent several letters. They agreed our hardship and then told us to wait til the test case was over :mad:! So letter has now been sent to FSO!

I wonder how Halifax work that they can pay out to some customers, but not all??

Hi,
First time poster, but been following the sites advice on reclaiming charges via hardship. Started my complaint with Halifax for £1600 in April this year...8 weeks is up tomorrow, so just called to find out if they have final answer for me...just to be told that they haven't registered my complaint as being related to financial hardship!!! Despite that term being included in all correspondence with them!! Completely out of patience with them. To call them incompetent is a huge understatement. Do they actually read any of the letters they recieve? Why would they request a common financial statement if they weren't considering my case for hardship? Utterly disgusted with the level of customer service and internal communication. Is it worth another letter? Or do I go straight to the Ombudsman?

• Total claimed: £3032 plus interest £1086

Been offered 2,763.00:T

Having read the forums of people that have had their hardship claims settled it would seem that most banks are offering 100%of the claims and in some case interest as well. Has anyone refused an offer from Natwest and had the offer increased. As i am in hardship, they obviously know that i need the money, but i don't want to feel as if im selling out when another letter could increase this offer. I sit here thinking of all the times they took my social money as I was left with nothing for food (which im now informed they should not have done, even when I called them to explain).

The offer is either accept or decline and wait until the legal proceeding have finished... could be ages

Anyone with any advise xx confused Blond in Essex :rotfl:

Well, did you specifically give details of your hardship? Did you include copies of arrears notices? Did you just say financial hardship?
You can go to the ombudsman but they might refer it back to halifax. Worth giving the FOS a phonecall and ask them.

Hi
I have been going through the reclaim case since 2007 for 2 halifax accounts. I went through the route of financial hardship and i recieved a letter today offering £28 :rotfl:they owe me £800 from 30/06/2003 to 30/06/2007. I am going to use final template letter on this website.
However I have a question ??????
I started the claim in June 2007 for last 4 years charges but that was 2007 what about all the charges from 2007 till present date ????
The amount would be different if can only claim from last 4 years ??

thanks steve

• Forget to mention........Should i not be claiming from May 2005 to May 2009 and if so the amounts would be different so would it be a fresh start on reclaiming ????
thanks steve

Just recieved a call from CR manager at Halifax...I was wrongly advised this morning. Apparently Halifax have considered my hardship claim, and are happy to acknowledge that I am in financial difficulty ( i should hope so after all the effort i've put into proving it to them!) but are unable to consider refunding my charges till after the court case. More discouraging tactics on their part? Either way, it's off to the Ombudsman tomorrow.
