  • Why are you not pursuing your current account provider?
    No charges with them?

Even although the account is closed you can start the process of reclaiming the charges with interest. There are other tactics as well.

Why not look on the web for consumer action group, CAG, for more detailed advice?

  • I have claimed back charges and was told that they were going to give me some back but what they have done is put it in an account that I no longer have access to so I cant draw on it.

can I clarify my point again, are you reclaiming against the bank account provider that you currently have or is that Halifax?

  • Hi
I am getting confused I will start at the beginging. I had a bank account with the Halifax A few years ago I got into trouble with the account by being overdrawn so I was advised to change to another bank which I did. I then was advised to start paying the Halifax back a certain amount every month which I did and im still doing. then a few months ago I put in a claim for the bank charges to be given back because myself and my Partner no longer work because he is classed as disabled I am his carer so we were finding it hard to cope. The Halifax decided to give us £472 back. I didnt get anything through the post so I Rang the Halifax and they said that the £472 had been put into the Account that I was paying off And I cant get to the £472 Because its frozen. I havnt done anything else about it since the phone call I made dont know if I can Appeal agaisnt there disssion or not. thanks
  • I would say that it is unlikely because the bank account is not causing a worsening of your financial difficulty now.

    Yes you can.

    Thanks

Just read a letter from halifax saying that overdrafts are now charged at £2 per day. Mine is £2750. Can I reclaim charges then close the account and make an arrangement to pay off overdraft? I can't afford to pay £60 per month just for the overdraft facility. I have another account with another bank that I could use as my main account.

I'm worried they wont re-pay any additional charges as the charges I got back a few years ago were on the condition that this was a full and final payment.

Got a letter yesterday with a charge of £35 as I missed a £5 direct debit and went over my overdraft...
    Help!!!

I would look to see if you can either use a balance transfer to clear the overdraft or look at a repayment plan cos if you use the total of the overdraft, ie £2750.00 then it could cost you as you have said £60.00 a month.

  • Hi all, hoping someone can advise me.I have bank account with Abbey since sept 08, i have just started a dmp and although its wrong of me i didnt declare the od i have with abbey as i am going to try in time and get it paid off its for £200 and i really wanted to keep my main account. I have had about £550- £600 charges with them since end of may this year and its the one thing thats ruining me financially as every month its up on £100 thats setting me back and causing me to have to borrow from family members etc. I am scared though that if i try to reclaim under hardship that they will pay me nothing but take away my £200 od straight away and cancel my debit card facility or something. Thats my biggest fear. I really would love to get my charges back as it would enable me to have the od cleared and a few extra pound at xmas that i wont have as every spare penny goes on dmp. Many thanks for advice
