I bank with Abbey and I've applied under the Financial Hardhship guidelines. Basically I've been without a job since the beginning of October and am in the same boat as a lot of people with rent, bills, and loan repayments to pay. I filled in an I+E form and sent it back to Abbey 3 weeks ago. I've heard nothing. And every time I call Abbey to see what's going on, they say that they'll log my complaint with their complaints team, and someone will write to me in 2-3 working days! Abbey owe me around £4500 (which will now be more as this was the amount BEFORE the cases all went on hold, when I initially started my claim). I've heard nothing from them, and now the situation is getting desperate. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do now?0

After receiving £140.00 from the Alliance & Leicester as a refund under the financial hardship, i wriote back asking them to look again at my claim as the amount of £140 fell considerably short of the £6,981.00 i was claiming back in charges.I received a letter today saying that everything was on hold due to the test case and as soon as there was an outcome on the case they would be in touch, this was the same letter i received originally last year when all the reclaiming stopped.Has anybody got any ideas of what i should do next like everyone else in this situation we need our money back!0

Anyone dealt with First Trust Bank? - member of Allied Irish Banks. Went through he process and they agreed it would be dealt with under financial hardship due to serious illness -£4000 in charges - got letter from them today to day they were not upholding my complaint!! Going to FOS now??0

After I read on this website about reclaiming your charges through hardship I decided to go for it as I kept going overdrawn and getting direct debits returned. I posted my claim away on Tuesday I used the template on here and I got a reply today saying they would refund £722.00 as they agreed I was in financial hardship. This is only £200.00 short of what I asked for including interest and they said that they would keep my case on file until after the test case. Thank you to money saving expert for making me aware of this I can actually afford christmas now.0

I have just got off the phone to HSBC after sending a letter on the 21st November explaining my charges and that I was in financial difficulty, for all the reasons detailed on the website. The response arrived in the post this morning dated the 25th, it was the generic letter that is sent explaining the court case... It has a small paragraph at the end explaining if you feel you are in financial hardship then to call a telephone number with a reference. It was the generic telephone banking number which kept me on hold for 10 minutes then to get any answers I had to ask for a manager who is calling me back this evening. They clearly have no understanding of the process and has left me furious, I spent ages writing a letter to them which has clealy been ignored- I don't know what to do next?!! I've called the number as requested and nothing has changed, please someone help me! Amy0

I bank with HBOS and had a claim on hold for £7500. In April this year my husband died and he had no life insurance or insurance on the joint loans we have. I have been struggling to pay the mortgage and have come to an arrangement for reduced payments for the loans. I applied to the bank to reconsider my case on financial hardship grounds and filled in the financial statement they sent to me in July. I contacted them in September and they said they didn't have this and sent me another one which I completed again! I had an overdraft of £900 but this has crept up to £1200 because of returned direct debits etc. They closed my account and sent me a letter from collections in October, saying I had to pay this in full. I wrote a letter to them explaining my situation and that I was waiting to hear from them regarding my financial hardship claim.
Today I received a default notice from them. They are completely ignoring my letters! I havent spoken to anyone there, all my contact has been through letters. I am at my wits end, trying to juggle money so that I can pay bills but I am getting deeper into debt and this just makes me want to crawl into a hole and hibernate, it's too much to cope with but I know I have to do something? Any suggestions or advice would be very much appreciated.0 -
