Bank Charges Financial Hardship Disussion

How much are your priority debt arrears (rent, utilities, council tax). If they are more than £500, you could phone them and try to negociate a higher figure.
You will not get £2600. What most people don't realise is that even under Financial Hardship waiver, banks do not have to refund anything
thanks for the reply.. arrears are about £1100 but they already know that from the letters that i have sent them, now that this has been decided by them, should i reply saying i except this £500 as part payment towards everything i am claiming, i didnt expect £2600 from them 500 is a start, but will my claim that is still stayed in the courts continue untill the test case or with this payment will it now be removed from the courts etc etc. thats what i am unsure of...
thanks0 -
I really feel like I am wasting my time and a bit of money with this. I don`t think I can be bothered going to the ombudsman with it.0

Hi Folks
I sent the usual letters, claiming financial hardship ( I'm on disability benefits), the bank refused to refund any charges so I contacted the F.O.S. Just received a letter today from them stating they have asked the bank to investigate my claim.
However the bank are just playing for time in my opinion. I wonder how long the F.O.S will allow them to investigate the "aspect of my claim". I have no doubt this will take ages as it has already done so with the bank ignoring all letters I downloaded from this site, not even a reply.
I would point out also that the contact numbers given by Hbos are all manned by Irish operators who have been quite cheeky in their responses. So much for customer relations. I hope the banks end up having to refund everyone, every single penny.:mad:0 -

Did you get a final response letter from them?
Remember to do everything in writing initially.0 -

So what do I do now then? Their final response is that they are giving me sweet FA.0 -
I followed the suggestions about reclaiming bank charges recently when a paypal payment went through on my current account instead of my credit card, putting me £243 in the red, although my overdraft is only £100. When I queried why they (bank of scotland) still paid out even though there was insufficient funds and should have automatically went to my back-up funding source on the paypal site(my credit card), the bank said it depended on paypal and that the bank was obligated to pay it and anyway it would still cost me £35 to reject the payment. I find it all confusing. I told them they were putting me in hardship as I am on benefits and it all has a knock on effect. I am frugal with my money and seldom go into the overdraft facility, so they gave me a goodwill gesture of cancelling the £63 total charge. One time only! I got told that the banks are changing how they charge us at the end of 2009. If you use your overdraft at all, we will be charged £1 every day, authorised overdraft,(regardless of pennies or pounds over) but £5 every day unauthorised overdraft. All the banks agreed to this. We will get letters in september, new charging effective from december 2009. Has anyone else heard this or was I getting mislead?0

Well I still live with my parents so I am not entitled to housing benefit and my `rent arrears` I owe to them.0
