I hate rejection of offers. You need a financial hardship closure letter from the bank because without that it is difficult to advise on how to tackle them. Rejecting anything on the basis of how much it is, is not the right thing if it alleviates financial hardship in anyway. Negotiating is the key.
EDIT: the fos will agree with the bank if you do not have an argument which will be made from a financial hardship closure letter.0 -

how would i go about getting a closure letter??
i rejected it because it felt like a kick in the teeth ,iv probs spent more on contacting them . if it was a decent sensible offer id have bitten there hand of but just felt like they were trying there luck ,and no matter how skint i am i will not b mugged off by the banks anymore0 -

Did they say why they are only refunding £311.00?0 -

You need to ask them for one so you can go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

If you aren't in financial hardship you reject offers but if you are then you accept and ask for more. If the bank say No then you have to argue that the banks reasoning is wrong in the amount they gave otherwise they will uphold the decision made. Let's not mess around here. The banks do not have to refund even 1p under financial hardship and if you reject offers then they can effectively make you wait or you can let the FOS agree with them.0 -
yes, some is for the use of a pesonal reserve. the letter said that they accept my claim of financial difficulty and that £300 was a goodwill gesture paid into my account. my complaint regarding unauthorised bank charges would be dealt with once legal procceedings between the banks and oft were finished.0

Hi,
Im new to the forum.
I would like to reclaim my bank charges from Barclays under the financial hardship rule...just wondered if i would be considered?
I am a single mum,(as of recent) i am currently on benefits as i am a stay at home mum. My boys are 2nhalf and 8months..i am also currently 6months pregnant with my 3rd baby. My account is overdrawn by £165 atm and i live in that.I keep getting hefty charges each month which leaves me unable to meet my babies needs and have to borrow from my mum.
Please tell me there is hope?
Also, could you please tell me the address to send my letter requesting my money to? I bank with Barclays.
Many thanks in advance xx0 -
Id be eternaly greatful if anyone could help......
I claimed financial hardship back in april this year and was awarded half the charges back after paying some things off completely and getting up to date with some other payments i was back to square one, overdraft used up and now upto the limit on the reserve of £500, as a single mum of two small boys being on benefits life is a big enough struggle but yesterday found out that barclays had taken £136 of charges that were incurred last month, on the letter they send out it says they will charge me after 14 days nothing about taking it all in one lump and leaving me with no money, i was at the supermarket when i found out and couldnt believe it, no food, no milk and on emergancy electric. I called them for around an hour and got no where, i was shocked i never swore but kept my composure and kept asking them to tell me how im supposed to live with nothing, the supervisor was no help and actually stopped talking, just left me on the line and didnt utter a word which took all my credit! I was completely devistated and didnt know what to do next, do i go to citizens advice, do i sit in the branch with my screaming kids until someone removes us from building, i just dont know.
But i did remember someones reply to a thread about banks not being able to take charges from benefits and if its true could someone tell me what i can quote to them to get some money back???0 -
