I meant, your rent is in arrears(I think you said earlier) is the arrears being paid off or is it still in arrears?

I think I know why the bank said no.
Utilities arrears are being paid off and so is rent arrears.

If you take off £35 off the budget plannner, are you in positive or negative?(not sure that is how they work it out but the arrears being paid off is why they aren't paying out)

I have started a financial hardship claim against Nationwide. I would like to know if I am able to claim on a closed account I also had with them. I ended up with so much charges on the account that I was unable to open in the end. The only way the charges got cleared was because they stopped me getting to my child benefit that was being paid into a seperate account I had for my child. They used every single penny of her child benefit for about 9months and then closed the account.

They allowed me to open another basic account straightaway though! This is the one I am now claiming on. I would really love to be able to claim on my old closed account if possible.

The answer is yes, but Nationwide will only pay out in the period in which the financial hardship started. If you have priority debt arrears(mortgage/rent, council tax, utilities) and aren't paying back any arrears on them they may look at the case as a hardship one.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do have a number of priority debt and have mentioned this in my letter to them.

I know what you are saying but that is the likely reason why they have said no, because the arrears are being paid off so are reducing without any further worsening.
With the FOS I think you have to write to them to add to the case as to how the hardship started, what has happened ie arrears and how the charges have impacted on them. You need to write that you are having to borrow money off relatives to keep your head just above the water. See whether the FOS will come to another decision but remember they may agree with the bank.

I have an account under my child's name with Nationwide with some of her child benefit saved in there. I class it as her little pot of money for when she needs things but the bank might think it means I have 'savings' - should I close the account before sending the letter of including my statement of finance?
