I've been looking at cloth nappies too. Currently expecting my 3rd baby, and I like the look of the Motherease One Size and Rikki wraps.

The cheapest I've found is this ebay shop:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Motherease-One-Size-Birth-to-Potty-Pack-Extras_W0QQitemZ200046509269QQihZ010QQcategoryZ26269QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200046509269

For £229.99 (plus £12.95 postage), you get:

    Pack Contains:

20 Motherease White or Unbleached One size Nappies
12 Motherease White Rikki Covers (4 Small, 4 Medium, 4 large)
10 Motherease White or Unbleached snap in boosters
    1 Nappy Bucket 16L
20 White Stay Dry Fleece Liners (These can be changed for disposable liners if preferred)
    1 Mesh Laundry Bag
    1 Wet Nappy Bag

18 Good Quality White Cotton Washable Wipes
    1 Weleda Nappy Change Cream

That seems to be everything you need for birth to potty for a one off fee. I'm probably going to buy this before baby arrives, but I'm waiting until I get the expense of Christmas out the way first!
If your Mam struggles with poppers, you could always use disposables for when she is babysitting. I plan on using disposables now and again, such as if we're out for the day or go on holiday.
Here I go again on my own....

    Hi

I have been using reusables for nearly 2 years now on DD. We use Onelife when MIL has her she arthritis and can fasten them no problem. They are superb quality, one thing I would say though is they will be quite big on a newborn so be prepared for that. I would seriously advise you to use Motherease wraps as they are by far the most reliable.

I've been using Motherease Onesize on my little one since she was born (now 13 months) & I love them!

I prefer the airflow wraps (poppers) to the rikki (velcro) but that's personal preference.

Don't forget to check if your local council offer you cash for using reusable nappies.

    Cheshire offer £25

    Staffordshire £30
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
  • We have used the same Rikki wraps (with velcro) for both our children and they are great, still waterproof. Have used them with the cheapest terry nappies we could find, just folded into pad shape then used a piece of fleece (cut from an old fleecy jumper!) as a one way liner.
Tried : CottonBottoms outers: rubbish. Bambino Mio: weird fit, couldnt get on with them. Motherease/ Rikki have been the best. IMO its not the fastener that causes the problems its the mood of the child.:D
  • We've bought motherease one size nappies second hand off ebay - we hope we'll get one with them well, but if we don't we can always resell them.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

Not only what it will save but have a good resale on reusable nappies aswell if you keep them in good condition.
One day I might be more organised...........

thanks for all the advice, i'm currently thinking of the one life nappy from kiddicare as they are just 6.97 each if you buy over 3, and then i think i'll go for the motherease airflow wraps, would six be enough?
i have a bucket, and changing bag, is there anything else i need?

Can I suggest that you also check if there's a nappy agent in your local area by using the nappyfinder website http://www.realnappycampaign.com/nappyfinder/

The agent can show you all of the different systems and advise what would be best for you according to your budget; washing/drying facilities; baby's sex weight and shape etc. Most agents (myself included) work for cloth nappy internet companies where you will find a much better choice than on the high st.

Most real nappy users would advise against buying an expensive birth to potty kit which restricts your choice somewhat.
Sone of the interent companies offer a trial system so you can road test some of the different nappies then purchase them when you decide what suits.

It's funny you should say that, as I contacted an independant nappy advice service and they recommended the Motherese birth to potty pack to me.

Would you say it's a bad buy? I haven't bought anything yet - waiting until I get the baby's room decorated, so I've got somewhere to put everything!

    hiya

they're popular nappies, the only problem might be if they dont suit your baby then your stuck with the whole kit.

I use tots bots on my little one, I tried a motherease one size but it's massive on a newborn and I got put off them. The motherease wraps are excellent though and I've never used anything else. Fleece liners can be made yourself by cutting some fleece up, this way you can make them to suit baby's size. We made teeny ones when he was newborn and recently made some massive ones now he's a toddler.

There's loads of nappy info on the website of the company I work for (address in my profile). I'm an advisor in South Durham, there's also one in Newcastle if you ever need any help or would liketo see the nappies in the flesh!
