After much trial and error in terms of trying to relieve a sore bot on DD2 I've found the vaseline works wonders and its cheap. All sudocream is, is a barrier cream to stop the sore bits getting wee on them isn't it? I thought os anyway. If so then vaseline must do the same thing, DD2 is fine after a few days of it. Not too sure how it will wash out though, we are currently in disposables as grew out of our modern baby and are waiting on delivery of fuzzi bunz.
Maybe she was having a reaction to the dispoable!WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -
Someone recommended Drapolene bum cream for my baby. She had one of those red-raw weepy rashes on her entire botty area, it was hot and it stung her like heck. I put the Drapolene on and in the morning the skin had practically healed, the redness had gone and her skin was cool again. Bloody amazing stuff!!!!Just run, run and keep on running!0

METANIUM is another good one that you can get from the supermarket - or you can ask for a prescription from your baby's doctor and save the money while you are fixing baby's bum!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

If metanium's that luminous yellow stuff, it works but watch your carpet/furniture!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

PLain Flour! works wonders on nappy rash, especially if its sore and bleeding.
Had to be v careful with dd2 as she has eczema.

Yes it certainly is that yellow stuff and yes you do need to be careful of clothing and the like - but as you say, it certainly works.
I have never used talc as it can be very drying to the skin.
On another note:
My little one had a teething rash and he didn't help himself by falling out of a wheelbarrow (don't ask - he was dancing in it) into the middle of the courgette plants at our allotment and grazing his lovely little bum - just felt I had to share that with you all!!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

poor sausage! i have used the sample of bepanthen i got in the bounty pack at hospital, it seemed to work, have also used avent magic cream samples. my baby doesn't have nappy rash though i don't think - he is a chubby thing and he gets red sore bits where his thighs have folds, so i suppose it's more that his skin rubs against itself, or sweat or moisture from cleaning doesn't dry properly. talc seems to work for that.52% tight0

Hi there, after reading various threads on washable nappies i thought i'd add my bit!
We're currently using washable nappies with our 2nd child (19months old)and did so for our first child too (4 years). We found the motherease one size the best. They are shaped like disposables and have the option of a pop in booster liner. The popper nappy instead of the velcro type is better as the velcro doesn't work as well after several months of use. They have never leaked (even with a runny tummy!) and we're still using the original ones. We found the air rikki wrap the best as its waterproof but breathable too. Apparently they're only supposed to last for about 9 months but ours are still going strong albeit a little faded!! We bought about 20 nappies with booster pads included and 11 wraps in small med n large. You can get extra large but we thought we'd wait and see if we needed them. We do soak them in a bucket (plastic bin with lid from a pound shop) and use a sanitiser. Never really had a problem with nappy rash but on occasions we used the earth friendly baby range cause it worked!!
Although it says birth to potty on the labels, i would recommend you wait until your baby is past the meconium ( black tar-like stuff they produce at first) stage as this is horrible to wash out.
These nappies have probably saved us an absolute fortune looking at Martin's workings out.. :j
If you're thinking about it....go for it. Its not that much hassle. We do use disposables for when we're away and reckon Asda's own are pretty good. They're much softer than a lot of leading disposables and a lot cheaper.0 -
Hi All,
Am looking for somewhere I can buy cheap Fuzii Bunz nappies. The best price I can find at the mo is between £9.00 & £9.50 for the nappy and another £2.65 per insert. Does anybody know of anywhere cheaper. I have tried ebay but they only seem to have small and I need petite toddler size.
Also, for a girl just turned 1 how many do you think I will need??? I have no indoor drying facilities other than my airing rack.
Thanks,

Hi,
Not sure where you can find them cheaper than that, unless one of the sites are having a sale or you can find a discount code. We use Fuzzis and got them cheaper from The Buziness as they were closing down, £9.75 for nappy and insert. You don't need to buy a fuzzi insert necessarily as microfibre cloths, hemp inserts are just as good (though hemp will take longer to dry).
We have 13 fuzzis for an 8 1/2 month old and wash every other day. We do also use prefolds and terries as and when. We also don't have a tumble dryer and just use string crisscrossed across the upstairs landing. You could get one of those airer thingies that you suspend from the ceiling so they would be more out of sight and wouldn't take up as much room.
I would however, suggest not buying all your nappies in one go if you've not tried Fuzzi's before. Buy one and try it out as they don't suit all babies. Oh and use the thigh measurement rather than age as its more accurate.
One more thing! Have you checked with your local council to see if they are offering monetary incentives for using cloth?
Sorry if I'm repeating things you already knew!
