Perhaps check with your local council. Mine has appointed a nappy officer (yes really!) and they may be able to help. I think it is connnected to environmental services.

Yes our local council has a nappy officer and nappachino mornings too! This is in Worcestershire. Your council can advise on what is available.

Keep looking on eBay as these things change all the time. I managed to get all my kooshies from there in the right sizes by vigilence and obsession!

  • Hello Mums and Dads

I have always stored my washable nappies in a bucket with a tablespoon of nappy cleanser and a few drops of tea tree oil, then covering the nappies with warm water and leaving them until I am ready to wash them.

However I find you have to change the water daily if you don't have enough nappies to wash and when I take the net bag out to pop in the machine I always end up spilling water on the floor and it dribbling smelly water out of the front of the machine.

So I have decided to give 'dry pailing' a go in the hope it avoids the mess and also in todays climate I'll be saving water at the same time

Has anyone else tried this method, got any tips...?

  • I dry pail. I get the worst of any residue off with the liner (although I also wash & re-use the disposable liner if it's only wet:money:) then wrap the nappy up on itself & stick in the bucket. I wipe around the inside of the lid with a bit of lavender oil to keep the smell at bay when opening. I find I generally wash every other day or so using soapnuts & a tablespoon of nappisan then line dry.

Just wish I coudl find a bucket big enough, why are they all such stupid sizes, only big enough for about 3 nappies:confused::rolleyes:

    HTH;)

  • I have tried dry pailing in the same was as mentioned but as we only do a separate dirty nappy wash once a week at the most, I've found that the residue starts to ruin the fabric. Also the nappies just don't come up so clean. Therefore, I have returned to wet pailing.
  • I dry pail. A few drops of tea tree oil in the bucket keeps everything smelling ok. I wash about every second day, and have no problem with the nappies staining. (I do have a problem with stained wraps though, but thats a whole other story!)
