when i worked part time as a student(not RM) i earned holidays at the same rate as FT staff
obviously on a pro rata basis
so if a FT worker earned 1.5 days a month, then as PT i would earn 1.5 days once i had worked the same hours as a FT worker did in a month
How long have you worked there custardy?
I'm a part timer based in busy Manchester, and have been there 18 months. As you say in your previous posts you do get messed around a lot as a reserve, from easy 3 bag 2 hour walks to 6 bag 4.5 hour walks!
But as yet (touch wood) I've never been "farmed out" to another office.
I'll say one thing though it's bloody hard work at times especially as down here we have to carry everything on our shoulders as we have no trollets/carts.
You sound as though you really like the job, despite the current working climate, will you be sticking with it?

think ive just hit 3 years,i was pretty much one of the last full timers in my office
i dont do deliveries now as such,im PHG'ing :p but i was lucky enough not to go to other offices.
however ours is one of the busiest in the city so its more often staff come to us
as for whether i'll stick it.i would really love to go back to uni
however a young baby would mean i would need to do serious overtime and saving to allow that. that will take time.
we dont really use carts either, just not practical

in real terms the jobs screwed(in our office we dont use the word screwed ;) )
service levels are plummeting and i dont see it improving in the near future
i predict a privitisation which will supposedly 'save' RM
a carve up of the network fragmenting the sections like logistics, delivery etc
RM will pressure as many full timers as possible out

had an interview for a full-time job over 2 weeks ago and after the interview the chap who interviewed me said that i passed the interveiw and should find out in 2 weeks time if i got the job or not?

its been well over 2 weeks now so how long on average does it take to check my references/health and other data?

  • Hi

Got to say this thread really helped me for my interview. I two have passed the interview, but I'm waiting on confirmation that I actually have got the job!!...we shall see.

Any way the question I had were much the same as listed on this thread, however they went into slightly more detail!.

For example when they asked give an example of when you worked in a team?, they didn't only want to know the jobs I've done working in teams they wanted an example of an exact task within that job and what role I played and then what I learnt from the experience?

Same kind of thing for meeting dead lines.

    hope that helps.
  • Hi.

I have an interview for Royal Mail on Friday and I just have a couple of questions.

Does anyone have any idea what working in the South Manchester office is like?

When I applied I'm 100% certain it said it was a permenent role (otherwise I wouldn't have applied) but after going back to check it it says temporary 13 weeks. Does this mean it it is definate I would be out after 13 weeks or is this just a probationary period?

Thats what I was hoping. I know its hard to say without knowing how I do at the job but to Royal Mail have a history of taking people on just to get rid of them at the end and save a bit of money or do they actually keep the people that do well?

    Hi there,

I'm new here and have found this thread very help - Thankyou.

I have an interview to be a postie tomorrow, 26 hrs a week, contract says temporary - 7 months.. Do you think theres a chance of becoming perm if I got the job?

I have prepared some answers in the 'ole brain so thanks for listing those likly questions!

I have 1 question, What CRB does RM do? I have a police caution (Cannabis related) from a couple of years ago. I have read that a standard CRB check will not show this, But a Enhanced CRB check will show it.

If asked I will fully admit to this in the interview (good idea?)

    :(
  • After a bit of googling I found this:

What offences are deemed as unacceptable to Royal Mail Ltd?
The following offences if ‘unspent’ are deemed as unsuitable to the business.
Please note: The list below is not exhaustive but instead is designed to give a clear indication of the nature of offences that Royal Mail Group Ltd deems as unacceptable.
    • Arson
    • Firearms/Weapons Offences
    • Fraud, Forgery or Counterfeiting Offences
    • Harmful or dangerous drugs (e.g. category A drugs), or supply of any category of drugs
    • Offences against the Justice System
    • Offences against the Person
    • Offences against the Postal Service
    • Sex Offences
    • Terrorism
    • Theft

Considering Cannabis is a class B drug (was class C untill recently) and I wasnt done for dealing, I think/hope I should be fine?

What other security checks may I be required to undergo?
All applicants as part of the recruitment process will undergo a Recruitment Risk Register (debarment check). This check will determine suitability for employment by investigating if applicants have committed any unacceptable offences against the business in the past.

In addition, certain roles may require further security checks such as a Voters Register Check, a Financial Check and/or a Counter Terrorist Check as determined by industry security standards. More information on each of these checks is found below.

Please note the job description will indicate if these additional checks are required for the vacancy for which you are applying.

Will they run a credit check to be a postie? My credit report is pretty bad, not very bad but far from excellent..

    Sorry for all the Q's.
