Hi there, I attended an interview on Wednesday, 19th September after passing the online tests for a temporary position of postman/woman/occasional driver. I have just received this email but I'm just a bit confused. I was told at the interview that if I'm successful I will need to come back in for a 15 minute document check which I have just booked for next week. Now I have been invited for the document session I was under the impression I've more or less got the job subject to the checks. But in the email it says I will be asked to attend another more formal interview at a later date, something I wasn't told at the interview on Wednesday. Am I right in not getting too excited at this stage? Here is part of the email I received:
"We are pleased to advise you that your application for the position of Postman/Woman with Occasional Driving has successfully progressed to the next stage of our recruitment process.
We now wish to invite you to attend a Document Checking Session.
The Document Checking Session will last approximately 15 minutes and is designed to allow us to collect the necessary proof of Right to Work documents prior to a formal interview. If your documents are in order you will be given the details of the time, date and location of your interview at the session."0 -
I left RM in 1997 and then they were giving the new starts 51 week contracts then renewing them with another 51 weeks.
This was causing problems for people who were going for a mortgage as it wasn't deemed by the lenders to be a permanent job.
Maybe that's still their policy.
With this type of contract anytime there was a days strike the boss in my office used to go and say to any of the workers on this contract, don't forget your contract might not get renewed.
He was a right b@st@ard. Which was common with a lot of RM managers.:cool:0 -

I had an interview and document checking on Monday. You showed an auditor all your proof of who you are and entitlement to work etc.. If that was in order you had your interview straight away.
You will need passport, driving licence, proof of national insurance number, proof of address. You will need to have colour photocopies of all of these. If you do not have the copies they will send you away (happened to one chap). Make sure you have all your documents in order!0 -
Thanks Divadee, I should have had my documents checked on Wednesday when I had the interview but I was told that the person doing the checking hadn't turned up. The guy interviewing me said if I was successful I would be then asked to go back for the document checking next week. I received the email yesterday to say i'd passed the interview and now I've been invited to go back on Tuesday for a 15 minute document checking session. I hope I'm not being too presumptuous in thinking I may have got the job subject of document checks.0

I was a postie for a year before i decided to go to college full time. I was annoyed at the fact that i applied for a job that was advertised as 'driver' in my home village but when i got the job I was just put on rounds in various parts of Doncaster. The driver thing seemed to be a complete myth.
However, despite rarely doing the same round two weeks on the trot, i really enjoyed it. Lots of exercise and fresh air, good money. The only time i ever had a problem was on one round in a rough area where one person thought i was personally responsible for the fact that one particular piece of mail arrived later than it should have. He was a chav pillock though.
The managers were pretty great for the most part, except one who was a complete bell end, which everyone apart from him knew.0 -
Old thread revival alert!
Well, I had an interview this week and used barnabee's questions as a guide, the questions I was asked, were along those line of questions barnabee mentions but the subsequent questions I was asked in the interview were related to the previous question/answer already asked and answered, if you get my meaning.
When booking the interview, it did mention the interview would be informal but to dress smart, so I wore a suit and did feel overdressed. I was surprised though that I was only interviewed by one RM manager, nobody from HR and the said manager didn't work at the office I was applying for, so straight away I didn't feel overly confident. The interview lasted about 30mins, maybe a tad longer, 6 questions asked and notes were taken from my answers, the manager seemed like a nice enough guy and as mentioned by others in this thread, he did mention that I may be successful but somebody else gets the job, that I would go on a list for a future rolls that come available.Interview questions seem fairly standard for most jobs. On my interview I got asked things like:
1. Have you ever been in a position of trust by someone giving you something to look after?
2. Give an example of when you worked as part of a team.
3. Give an example of when you had to work on your own initiative.
4. How would you deal with an customer who is not happy with the service they have received?
5. How do you keep yourself fit?
6. Give an example of when you worked to a deadline.
7. Have you ever done a repetitive job before and what did you do to make it easier?
Ensure you have all of the original documents asked for. Don't forget to photocopy each one INCLUDING THE FRONT COVER OF YOUR PASSPORT. Loads of people attending the interview forgot that.
The people selected for interview I met were all notified by text and email. We all chose our own interview slot. The interview lasted about 45 mins to 1 hour. I had a decision after two weeks offering me a one hour a week contract on a permanent basis. I started this Monday gone with a one day induction course and my first day at the depot was yesterday. I went out straight away with a regular postman and shadowed him all day. Today I did the same round with another postman and will sort and deliver the round on my own this Saturday.
I left a well paid full time job to be a postman. After 5 years of working as a civilian for the Police being a postman is heaven. I do hope you are successful. Money is not everything and everyone I have met so far has been great.0
