if its like my office then annual leave is set by management0
-
ye your right, my manager told me the anual leave days yesterday ;o
i got a question which i need your experience with
i accidently misdelivered 4 posts today, by going to the wrong road - i was just going by the order i put the letter batches. i knocked at all the doors to try and get them back but no1 opened them
im worried at least one of them is going to contact the depo about it, specially as 1 of it was a lovefilm dvd which means if that dvd doesnt get to the customer he'll probs be liable for it still.
is there anything i can do, im going to knock again tomorrow but if there not in can you advise on anything. i was going to write a note on th back of one of th letters but werent sure what to write or how to write it.
cheersSavings Target: 100K by 2015

if i was you i would inform a manager
what i did/do if i misdeliver and cannot get an answer is put a P739 through the door saying sorry and putting on a request
eg please pop it in a postbox or if its near into the neighbours door
i also say i will be back the next day and will knock the door to retrieve it if they are home
it just lets the occupier know i realised i made a mistake
same for customers i knew and would sign recordeds for. always wrote on the letter i signed for it so they knew i hadnt just posted it without noticing it0 -
Hi, just woundered what happens at the induction?, got mine at the end of the month then i am starting my xmas casual role.
Still deciding whether to do the Sorting Office or the Data Entry, same pay and same hours, i did the Data Entry last year so was going to go for a change this year.
Also would anyone know do you get some sort of holiday pay as a xmas casual, i am sure i read somewhere you get money for every hour you work, is this true? I know i did when i worked for an agency last year at the Royal Mail.well '1st day' is induction at whatever training facility your area have
IIRC i had 1 week mon-fri office induction
then i was in the delivery office the next week
the next week was out buddied up with another postie on a duty
the next week was out on delivery solo
however the training used to be a lot longer,i would expect it to be shorter again
when you go out on deliveries your self make sure you know about the route eg pouch box arrangements(where your mail is stored en route),toilets!,get a map (i usually print one off for the guys from multimap)
you will find it hard at 1st and the routes will seem long
however you soon get into the swing0 -

.
The induction day basically tells you all the health and safety stuff you need to know about, you get some videos on H+S and security amongst other things. You will get shown the various pieces of equipment you may use both indoors and if you were on a delivery duty. They will also run through various rules and regulations. I was also shown round the office the day was held in.0 -
Hey! Thanks for the advanced info!!
Well went to check for sure if it was full time and it seems you are right. Don't know why I didn't remembered this.. you can read in the advert:
Contract Type: Casual
Hours of work: As and when required
I just hope that there will be a chance to go permanent there or somewhere near. (if everything goes smooth) Possible in a company like that I belive?!
Regards
haha no chance.
I worked for Royal Mail for 5 years as a casual for Birmingham Mail Centre. It was throughout my time at college and university that I used royal mail to make some extra cash. What i found out was that Royal Mail, in my opinion, was one of the most corrupt institutes on the planet. It was rife with nepotism and casuals who were paid minimum wage were called in an worked to the bone whilst permanent staff took it easy.
I was treated like a paramedic on standby, along with alot of other casuals who were foreign workers and were there to make ends meat. Most of the time we would only get called in to do nightshifts an we would be tipping all night - 11kg bags. Alot of them were actually much hevier than 11kg.
I saw casuals who were relatives of linemanagers get a contract with Royal Mail whilst I had been working there for 4 years. It was outrageous!
Glad i finally got my degree an left.0 -

if you can handle the monotony of data entry then its the easier option
however there will be overtime available at delivery0 -

when i worked part time as a student(not RM) i earned holidays at the same rate as FT staff
obviously on a pro rata basis
so if a FT worker earned 1.5 days a month, then as PT i would earn 1.5 days once i had worked the same hours as a FT worker did in a month0
