Working in Royal Mail

Hello everyone!

So.. anyone here did work or it is working at Royal Mail? Going to an interview this wednesday in Mablethorpe. Any advice?

Im kinda curious how it is to work at the Royal Mail but I reckon that the working rythim must be always in "Speed of Sound" mode.

Its the final stage! Lets hope I could get it through! :D Let me hear from you!

regards

As an ex postie, you will either sink or swim in your first week or two, and alot depends on your manager. Before last years strike, the job was good - not any more unless you have a walk of your own. Are you part time doing just deliveries? You will never get a walk of your own and you will be asked to do any walk in the office. I never had an interview, just a p!ss easy aptitude test at the local mail centre. If you possess a working brain cell, you will not be troubled by this test.

    Hey!

Its full time. That really must have been like some years ago, because these days you need to do an assessment and some questionairs (apart of all your work experience, personal details, criminal records bla bla) online. The assessment consists in sorting mail by postcode first and another one in postcode and street name. The first was 10m non-stop and the second was 15m also non-stop. A bit harder, but (as you say) with a working brain cell everyone can do it. Shame that its not the same as used to be! But still better that nothing atm!

    Regards

This was for the Aberdeen depot. The jobs were advertised in the local press last week too so I guess they are waiting for the applications to come in from that source too....hopefully!

When I left, full timers were not being taken on anymore. I joined 4 years ago and they did not do the tests you did at that time. If you're still there after two weeks you will probably stay. You will be put on any round initially and, depending on your manager, either get help or be left to fend for yourself. On an average walk, you will have 3 to 4 bags (more until you learn how to pack them efficiently) and you will be the last to leave the office. You will need to know what streets to put in which bag (the frames dont always follow the route) and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE POUCH BOX KEYS before you leave. If its a bike round you will need to secure a bike, especially in the larger offices.

i worked there for nearly 3 years for royal mail, gradually got worse and worse. they will treat you nicely putting you on someones round who is off for a bit and then like the others say, you will probably be moved round and you will have no idea when your day off will be. Everything goes by seniority as well.

Hey! Thanks for the advanced info!!
Well went to check for sure if it was full time and it seems you are right. Don't know why I didn't remembered this.. you can read in the advert:

    Contract Type: Casual
Hours of work: As and when required

I just hope that there will be a chance to go permanent there or somewhere near. (if everything goes smooth) Possible in a company like that I belive?!
