Bankruptcy Credit Reference File Clean Up - Discussion

However, after going thru my credit report on experian, there are about half a dozen debts (all included in BR) that don't even appear on my file?? Do you know why this is?
The most obvious explanation would be that those creditors do no report account data to Experian. Not all creditors report to all 3 Credit Reference Agencies. Some just report to 1 or 2 of the 3.
There are other possible reasons.
Credit reports are compiled by matching data from many many many different sources against you. If for some reason that match isn't made, then a debt won't show up. It's an automated process, so it won't be automatically picked up if missed.
Can be various reasons:
- You might not have provided the CRA with an address history that is complete enough. e.g. it doesn't cover all of the last 6 years, or it doesn't cover addresses that creditor had for you at the time.
- If there is a slight difference between previous address you gave Experian and the one the creditor had on file, then again Experians computers may fail to make the match.
- Any other similar disparity between the info Experian have on you and that which a creditor might report, meaning that it isn't automatically matched to your credit file.
In those sorts of cases even though the creditor has reported to Experian, as that crucial match to you hasn't been made it doesn't show up on your report.
Had this myself. Some debts that should have showed wouldn't. It was not until I provided an extra previous address (even though for more than 6 years ago), that all of a sudden the link was made and they showed up on my report. Experian had the info all along, but had failed to make link to my file until then.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi, I'm looking for some advice and this forum seems to have most of the answers!
I went bankrupt 23/11/2004 and was discharged 8/6/2005. I am in the process of cleaning up my credit files and found that Experian list a British Gas debt with a start date of 24/7/2004 (before my bankruptcy), default date of 25/11/2005 (after my discharge) and current balance of £456.
I didn't list British Gas on my Statement of Affairs (so I don't have the account number to give them anyway) and it's not named on my OR's list (although it could be under a solicitor/collection agency).
Can I ask for the default and settlement dates to be amended accordingly and the debt marked as settled/satisfied even though I can't be sure if it was actually included in the bankruptcy? It's listed under my previous address so I don't want to contact British Gas with my new details then they start chasing me for an old debt that should have been included in the bankruptcy!
On the other hand, I don't want to leave the default on my file until November 2011 when my other defaults will 'fall off' in November 2010. I'm hoping to apply for a small mortgage at the end of the year and don't want this to ruin my chances!
Thankyou in advance for any help!0 -
Hi All
I am new and was hoping you may help me clear afew things up.
Over the past 6 months I have found it impossible to get a credit card, so this morning I paid to get a copy of my credit report. On my report it shows 'Defaulted account' against a mobile phone contract I had back in 2006. Admittedly I was late making payments and it was eventually passed to a debt collection company to which I then paid them the full balance that was outstanding. My question is it seems this 'Defaulted account' on my report is causing my credit score to be very poor as it is the only negative thing on there. But should it be 'defaulted'? As I have paid the debt? Could I get them to remove this?
Thank you in advance.0 -

Many thanksBR 12th August 2009

Leave it a month or two after discharge to start the clean upWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
In the letter to send to the creditor it says to insert the name of the company included in the bankruptcy. What if the company you are writing to has bought the debt. To give you an example I have 'Aktiv Kapital' on mine (I think they bought Capital One card debt?)
Do I put the name of the company the debt was originally for or the one who has bought the debt?
Hope this makes sense0 -
A quick question,
I am going through the process of writing the letters to the creditors and i noticed it said to include a copy of your BR order aswell as your discharge letter.
Do i have to send a full copy of my BR order? Obviously it has my personal reasons for going BR on and i don't really want every Tom, !!!!!! and Harry reading it.0 -
I haven't wrote on this site for some time but wanted to give an update and some hope for others who may be contemplating the bankruptcy route. My wife and I both decided to go the bankruptcy route to clear our debts over two years ago and have since both been discharged. We had our Equifax reports over twelve months ago (but did nothing with them). We are now thinking of getting new reports with a view to clearing up our credit files. There have been big changes to our lifestyles since our bankruptcy but we are a lot happier now that the phone is not constantly ringing with debtors demanding money we didn't have. On the downside we lost our home but still managed to get a nice rented house.
I recently applied for and was accepted for a Vanquis credit card (to help rebuild credit history). I hope others find this of use.......There is life after bankruptcy!:)0 -
I have recently signed up for the credit expert free trial. there are a number of incorrect details on there (and other credit ref agencies also) but when i rang them to cancel they said if i send them a copy of my discharge letter they will write to the creditors on my behalf. Is this correct or are they just trying to get me to stay past the free trial?
thanksLead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.
