Well I have had further emails from the buyer and yes he has another account 'with over a 1000' on it. He has also told me that I am not a genuine seller so I am getting a neg! He has resent the payment and got his latest address confirmed.

I have had a response from eBay which I think was a standard reply of 'thanks for bringing this to our attention', however it also says that they will look into it and then act accordingly but won't tell me what they have done. Has anybody been through this process? Will I get a message from eBay at all?

well that sounds like feedback extortion given you havent had a chance to send them the item and they state you are getting a neg

And Sssssss your argument doesn't stand up - people can be removed and barred for attitude problems in local supermarkets as in other shops.

the email you got can hardly be classed as attitude! the supermarkets would be half empty if they banned every1 who asked for something but in thier opinion didn't do so every so politely.

You haven't seen the emails in full (unless you wrote them) and therefore cannot judge whether the person gave attitude or not. However this isn't about attitude, it is about whether they can demand that feedback is left at the payment stage.

I do not feel the need to get into a discussion about whether supermarkets ban people with attitude because they do. I don't care how many or who, as it does not concern me. I was merely pointing out that your example does not fit this scenario.

Having sold on eBay for 6 years the buyers are becoming increasing wierd. Today a buyer paid for an item and demanded feedback for payment. When I said that the item would be sent out on Monday and feedback would be left when item had been received and they were happy with it, I got these responses:

feedback should be left once the buyer has paid, as their part of the deal is over. ebay always recommends that sellers leave feedback once the item is paid for, this encourages the buyer to leave better feedback for the seller. i recommend you do so.

    and

as for the feedback i want my feedback up and running, thats all. it makes no difference to you as you can no longer leave anything other than positive. i would look at leaving you more favourable feedback if you left mine first as ebay suggests.

I am really upset and don't want to deal with this person at all. What do others think?

    It comes under 'feedback extortion'

    Report the Buyer to ebay

I agree about the possible neg but surly you cant be penalised as a non performing seller for keeping to the rules.

We are talking about ebay here....

Yep, I can't wait for the communication between myself and eBay to start - oh the joy of writing the same thing hundreds of times over and getting a cut and paste answer!

By the way does anybody know if I will get banned for a while and my listings removed when I receive a NPS and a neg? I've got so much to sell but daredn't put anything on until I know what will happen...

On classic eBay (pre-mid 2008) it was customary for sellers to leave feedback after the transaction had successfully ended i.e. when the buyer received the item and expressed as much in feedback (and occasionally emails to that effect). This had the effect of keeping buyers honest, though (in a small number of cases according to eBay's statistics) bad sellers could also threaten negative feedback as retaliation against buyer's legitimate complaints.

On the new, improved eBay (post-mid 2008) sellers are expected to leave positive feedback after payment is received, but before the transaction has successfully concluded. Buyers might therefore leave non-negative feedback and higher than the lowest DSRs if sellers are lucky. Or they might say the item arrived damaged or didn't arrive, and ask for a refund before a proper investigation can be concluded, to prove their case (or the seller's).

Sellers do still have the option of leaving follow up comments such as: "Buyer did chargeback after receiving item", "Buyer blackmailed me into refund", "DANGER - scammer - don't send goods!!!", "Contact Herts. Police crime no. AAJ087230155", etc. as a warning to others. You can also prominently display the eBay ID and details of bad buyers on websites to warn other sellers. Google is your friend and will help you find the many blacklists of bad buyers (and sellers).

Welcome to the new and improved eBay where buyers are King & Queen!

So you're refusing to sell to buyers who ask you to leave them feedback?

If that's the case, I don't think eBay is going to be troubling you much longer.
