Feedback Demand - is this the norm now?

Having sold on eBay for 6 years the buyers are becoming increasing wierd. Today a buyer paid for an item and demanded feedback for payment. When I said that the item would be sent out on Monday and feedback would be left when item had been received and they were happy with it, I got these responses:

[FONT=arial,sans-serif]feedback should be left once the buyer has paid, as their part of the deal is over. ebay always recommends that sellers leave feedback once the item is paid for, this encourages the buyer to leave better feedback for the seller. i recommend you do so.

and

[FONT=arial,sans-serif]as for the feedback i want my feedback up and running, thats all. it makes no difference to you as you can no longer leave anything other than positive. i would look at leaving you more favourable feedback if you left mine first as ebay suggests.

I am really upset and don't want to deal with this person at all. What do others think?

I've just switched to leaving feedback immediately after payment received, seems to leave happier customers, my only regret is I never did it before. Not sure why buyers or sellers get so worked up over feedback, in this case you both seem to be getting upset over not much, I can't see why the buyer is so bothered to send such messages or why it makes any difference to you.

cut your losses and leave them some. bite the bullet.

My thoughts towards feedback back have changed significantly recently. We've just starting selling from a 2nd account and as a test we started leaving feedback as soon as payment was received, which initially went against my long held thoughts on the matter. But the end result has been a feedback rate around 80%, none outstanding from more than 2 weeks and also the feedback that has been left has been more relevant, positive and thankful.

So I'm toying with idea of having automated feedback on our main account. Two caveats to that are I like to leave super good feedback for the best customers, and second some people still think sellers can leave negs so if a sale goes bottoms up it made dissuade some in leaving bad feedback.

Sorry I've hi-jacked your thread a bit, but basically what am getting at is like it or lump some people almost seem to think feedback is as important as the product, and as sellers how ever much of a pain it is and however hard to fathom it is, we've just a got to live with it and tbf out of all of life's hassles it's not the worst chore.

I used to always think it was nice when the seller left me feedback first. It's a bit much to write and demand it though.

One thing I've always wondered though about sellers who say feedback will be left when the buyer is happy: why is leaving the buyer positive feedback dependent on them being satisfied with your service?

Feedback is optional, as a seller if anyone emails asking me to leave f/b I just ignore them and leave it when I would've anyway
As a buyer I leave f/b when I receive the item and get a chance to log on, if a seller emails asking for f/b before this then I usually won't bother at all...

I originally changed it after I'd left +ve feedback for someone who had paid with a stolen credit card and one who claimed to have not received, when they obviously had, so it was more for safety reasons that I waited until items were received. Looking back I was probably being overcautious as they were rare incidents and I don't think when I left feedback made much difference. You could (and still can) leave follow ups if something does go wrong.

Yep you've hit the nail on the head as to why I'm concerned that the buyer is so bothered. They have zero feedback and their Paypal address isn't the same as their eBay one - Paypal isn't confirmed.

I am a fraud investigator within financial services (on maternity leave) - perhaps my approach to things is over cautious because of this?

I completely agree with you..I am more upset with the way it has been worded. Would you honestly be happy to deal with somebody who sent you messages like this?

Due to the change of rules, sellers are not left with much of an option...I like to know that my buyers have received an item and are happy with everything rather than log in and find I have a negative having left a positive for a 'buyer paid quickly'

I totally understand. When clowns write rude, abrupt nonsensical message it annoys me, and almost makes me want to cut and run. But with ebay you've got to realise it has pooled together a significant proportion of the U.Ks e-commerce shoppers who are scum, or at least a penny short of a pound, but you've just got to take it on the chin and not take it too hart. My critical take on it is to just have rye smile and think what utter pointless people there are about.

If you send to a confirmed address and with it tracked you should be fine.
