I have been getting calls all of today from this number, Google search suggests it is connected to an Ebay seller. My advice is: if you don't know the number, don't answer it. If someone wants to talk to you they will leave a message on the voice mail.

..or phone you back and back and back.

Many people dump voicemail / 1571 or never signed up to it, as it's just a way to make extra money from customers.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

On a side note... a lot of "telesales" / "survey" companies phone systems work as follows:

A computer dials a selection of numbers from a database. When you answer the call at your end it is processed to one of their operators. Sometimes you'll find when you answer your phone all of their operators are busy so the computer will just "hang" i.e sounding to you like "no - body is there".

What you'll then get, after a couple of these "prank calls", a few days later you'll receive a call from a telesales company. This is basically the computer connecting you to a person... finally!

Obviously not the answer to ALL "prank" calls but hope this helps to shed some light on some "silent" calls.

0121 689 are in the number range issued to Virgin Media Customers (xTelewest) in Birmingham.

eBay turns up often in Google on search as it's a paid for advert / result and often has nothing to do with the search term.

http://www.teleperformance.co.uk is the company calling using this number, as mentioned above.

  • Three Little Words That Work!!

    (1) The three little words: "Hold On, Please..."
Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of
hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more
time-consuming that sales would practically grind to a halt.

Then when you eventually hear BT's "beep-beep-beep" tone, you know it's time
to go back and hang up your handset .... You have efficiently completed your
    task.

These three little words could help eliminate telephone soliciting.

    (2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?

This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone Calls and
records the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is then used to determine the best time of day for a "real"
salesperson to call back and get someone at home.

What you can do after answering: If you notice there is no one there, is
to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as
    quickly as possible.

Apparently, the machine believes it has dialled a fax number and removes your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer!!!

3: When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from
credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the
    return envelope.

Most of these come with postage-prepaid return envelopes, right?

It costs them more than the regular postage "IF" and when they are returned.
It costs them nothing if you throw them away!

In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-prepaid return envelopes?

Send an advert for your local chimney sweeper to American Express ... They
    might need one!
Send a pizza coupon to HSBC ... In case their canteen packs up. You get
    the idea.

If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them back their
blank application form ... After all, it is their form!

If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything
    you return.

You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them
    guessing!

It still costs them, and it is their envelope after all .. You are just returning it!!!!

The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own
junk back in the post, but folks .... We need to OVERWHELM them, in order
    to stop them.

Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail,
And best of all they're paying for it ... Twice!

Let's help keep Royal Mail busy.

Since the Royal Mail are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, let's help them so they will not need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea!

If enough people follow these tips, it will work ---- maybe you'll get very
    little junk mail anymore.

I got so fed up with receiving 'special offers' to insure my Sky equipment (which, although it's over 3 years old was mysteriously just reaching the end of its warranty period) that I decided to get my own back.

Helpfully, they enclosed an application form with none of my personal details pre-printed - so I was able to complete it as I wished.

I chose a genuine address in a city some 200 miles away and made up a name. I then checked for a nearby bank and looked up its correct address and sort code. I had to make up an account number (but I made sure it was only 7 digits so, although the discrepancy was unlikely to be noticed until it reached the bank, it could not possibly be processed by them).

Gordon Sommersby-Smythe duly completed his application form and Direct Debit mandate form and, using the reply-paid envelope they also helpfully provided, returned his application to have his Sky equipment insured.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have had repeated "silent" calls from this number and have eventually today spoke to some one when they called. It was some one from moneysupermarket.com ringing about a car insurance search i had done on there and offering to find me an even better quote.................which they didn't. Perhaps u have done some quotes/searches?
  • Update on Phone number 0121 689 6836, I have still been receiving these calls on a regular daily basis but never answer, they never leave a message.
Confirmed how to get rid of them: send E-mail with Surname & mobile number to Removals@teleperformance.co.uk which they must act on as per there legal duty on nuisance calls!
  • I have rang them 3 times on this number nothing changes we still get at least 5 calls a day from them, this has to be classed as harassment, I am going to start being very rude to them now maybe they will remove my number because of that, I can’t think what else to do they are driving me MAD!!!

I have received numerous calls from this number of the past couple of weeks and when I answer I hear a very brief 'call centre type' sound and then they hang up.

I have googled to no avail. Google Desktop tells me that I also googled this number in September last year, also to no avail

BT suggested Silent Callgard Service but I'm sure it's not one of those diallers, it sounds different. BT also confirm that it is a business number and suggested I complain to TPS - I hadn't thought of that as I didn't have the business name.

I refuse to call the number, other half wants to just to see what they say

I'm just very suprised that google throws up nothing at all

So I decided to post here so that google would at least show this thread up :T
