    HI,
I make all my bread at home and to be honest, you're better off without the breadmaker at all on this one.

The mixes typically are 'just add water' then knead for 10 minutes, rise for 1.5 hours then over for 30 mins. It's good exercise, better for the leccy/gas bill and easier to clean up. I ctually threw my breadmaker out last month as I hadn't used it in over a year!

Hope this helps and enjoy the scrummy results!

Having spent my hard earned cash buying a breadmaker, I really want to use that

Put your breadmaker on a dough setting and remove dough when cycle is complete....you can cut or tear dough as you wish, if you take pieces about half the size you want for finished rolls and shape them as you like, you can then put them on your baking tray leaving the width of one between them...I usually line my tray with baking parchment to be sure they don't stick. Leave to rise about 45 mins and bake at recommended heat until cooked...reckon 10 mins should be plenty for small rolls, just keep an eye on them.

    Good luck

had a practice run making rolls today in the breadmaker....what a disaster.
Read thro the instruction book and notes given on here, put the mix in, the same as for a loaf, turned the programme to 12 (for some reason is says pizza mix and rolls), should take 1hr 50 mins, then at the end of knock down 2, bell should ring, dough should come out, should be able to tear dough into balls, leave for 30 mins for last rise, then into oven. Well it went wrong for me. By the end of the programme the dough was still very liquid, there was no way you could tear it into pieces, spoon it yes. Anyway pored some of it out onto tray and into the oven, came out like mis/shape crumpets, but with less holes, very spongey texture.
Ah well 'spose I'll have another go later in the week. Do you think if I try and get the dough out of the breadmaker after rise 2 on the ordinary bread setting it might work

I bought the Multi Grain mix today (green bag, made by LANDGUT), was 99p for a 1000g bag which makes 2 loaves.

It says to use 'Normal/Browing:Middle or Dark' on the back of the bag?

As I assume this is for continental breadmakers would you bake this on a large loaf, whole wheat and medium colour setting ( I have a Morphy Richards fastbake)?

i dont know about the machine but if you can try to do it in the oven in which case it is easy to simply follow the instructions on the bag; please tell me where you have bought the mix as i cannot find this in my local lidl in south tottenham london

I don't like the LIdl breadmixes, I find them very salty. I used them when we were in the middle of buillding our extension, to save hassle. Ended up mixing them with flour.

I have used these bread mixes in my panny and found they were very doughy in the middle. So I make the dough in the machine, knock it back and knead it, put it into a laof tin and let it rise again, then bake in the oven for about 40 minutes. Perfect............

Out here in Spain, I've been using the Lidl bread mixes, some of which I found a bit salty, However Lidls here have now changed the packaging and the mixes available. We still have mixed cereal, ciabatta and sun flower, but the brown, white which is called Rustico here seem to have disappeared. has anything changed with the mixes available in England?
  • Morrissons have victoria foods bread mixes 2 for 80p and they are lovely, light and fluffy with a delish crispy crust. I usually make my own with strong white bread flour and plain flour but this worked out so cheap i had to try it. 40p for a loaf and my own one is about 35p so well worth the extra 5p for no weighing.

Also tried out my new food slicer and it is brilliant! Lovely slices of bread just like the shop ones (no more doorstep sandwiches for me ;) )
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))
