What a pity the we don't have a local branch! I might have a go by applying for it by telephone as we need to change our bank account at any rate.

Since this is a branch based initiative, do not apply via a call centre.

Be sure to ask them to put you through to your nearest branch (doesn't matter how near/far) and make the application directly with branch.

...and make sure you read all posts in this thread before ringing as they contain some very useful information.

Popped in the branch today, quick process and account is now being set up. If you are going for this, be prepared - they ask usual questions about current/previous address, employment (inc address and how long with them), salary (annual gross, monthly net), current bank (a/c number and sort code, and length of time with them), mortgage monthly payment, and strangely amount of council tax per month (if you pay monthly, then times by 10, divide by 12 as you only pay over ten months - had to guess this one!).

Incidentally, if Mrs Anon were to apply, does she need to give the same mortgage and council tax information if I pay these and therefore technically she does not have these outgoings, but the mortgage at least would appear on her credit file when they checked as in joint names (equally of interest as applying for stooze cards at the moment)?

They've always been very keen on 'affordability'. Not sure why though, because I would have though most (sorry for the generalisation) people's Council tax would be within a fairly narrow band if quoted as a monthly figure...wouldn't it?

Yes to mortgage, because that'll be listed on her credit file (as, for example, 216 months @ £565), but they must factor the 'joint status' into the credit scoring mix somewhere?

Not sure as to Council Tax...but she could say that you pay the Council Tax?

Joined in branch on Wednesday - welcome pack arrived today.

Do you know if you can set up an account on behalf of someone (Mrs Anon) or does she need to call herself?

    Many thanks

You put your debit card in the reader at the post office and cash is instantly credited.
The bank will also supply envelopes if you need to deposit cheques via the PO.

Try speaking to a different branch - there are many reports of some staff having less up to date knowledge than you might expect!
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
  • You have to phone them up to set up initial access. Be prepared to give about 5 pieces of security information which you will need to remember for logging in.

And if for some reason it doesn't recognise one of them and locks you out so that having asked you for the personal details it says you're not registered, your chances of getting a response from their 24 hour phone number in the evening in non-existent. Not all of us can call during the day or in the middle of the night.
